I found out over this last weekend that my real sperm donating father was adopted and his last name was never know. I ended up with his adopted last name. I was thinking that I should go and have my last name changed since it has no real meaning. And I have no contact with him or his adopted family. So the question would be how important is your last name to you?

well, you can't travel without it, or have rights in any country without a last name, hell, i get sh!t anyway with all ID's

My last is important, but not as important as the man who raised me. i agree, he who raised you should get claim, but it's really up to you, and it can give you a somewhat fresh start too. good luck. it can't be an easy decision.

My father figure in my life was my grandfather. What has me thinking is if I get married and have kids someday. Would I want to take on the last name of my future wife.

It sounds like your mother raised you... Why not take her last name... or your grandfathers? I'll be corny and say "a Rose is a Rose"... It is who you are that matters, not what your name is..

i have 2 last names Same here and neither one means anything to me. Its more of a pain in the a$$ then anything.

I like the way you think Krupa And Jim1957 you have a great point a last name is just a name. Its the person that defines it.
