Topic: I Think I'm Gonna Be Sick...

My sis & I have just found out that my 7yr old neice has been talking to a 41yr old guy on a little kid's game site. When she was caught, she deleted their most recent convo's, but my bro in law was able to retrieve most of the past history. None of it could be construed as sexual...he was just telling her how to play the game better...but I shudder to think of what could have happened had he had the time to "groom" her further!

Has anyone else come across this situation? She is not a stupid child & we all talk to her extensively about "stranger danger"...without getting her freakishly paranoid... She is banned from the computer untill further notice...but that won't protect her from other sources...her friend's comps, etc... This kind of stuff just makes me sick!

For now thank God it was only advice as to how to play the game better. I don't blame you or your sis for being worried for her. There are too many sickos out there in this world.

ok have aparent sit with her while she is on the computer in the house when she does get privleges.

as far as friends, thats a tough. and to give trust to a 7 year old is tougher. maybe you all need to sit with her?

I guess the problem is that nowadays, little kids are much more savvy about the internet...she had her own account set up & none of us knew the password or the fact that she had it in the first place! That's scary!

There are way to restricted what sites and other things that can help from things like this from happening. Id look into it and see what can be done about it. I used to play the game called Age of empires and there were all kinds of kids on there and even had a syber cop try to mess with me. Saying she was 15. Told her i don't mind playing the game, but don't expect anything else, and it was an 8 player game so all would see the messages you or anyone would send. Although, games like like that, you could send privet messages and that can cause problems. Anyway, you can block alot of the sites and can get info on them.

That is the way pedophiles work. Gaining the trust.

I would get with the site admins and ask them to check this mans history. I would also request them check his IP address for other accounts.

That may seem a bit paranoid, but i really can't see where a 41 y/o man would have a reason to be on a kids site.

in my opion a 7yr old shouldnt even have a myspace page. and i feel that they should have a parent at there side while there on the internet
when my grandkids come over my oldest is my grandson hes 11yrs. and all he does is plays games so its no big deal, but yea i watch what he does.

um... please don't shoot me or anything...perhaps i'm being naive...

but could it be at all possible that some adults, especially those who have and love their own children themselves, just genuinely like children in a wholesome non-pedo way?

My neice is not allowed to to have a MySpace & her activities are monitored quite frequently by her parents...hence her "getting caught". The name of this site was Wonderland Online, I believe, & is a children's game site. I have looked over her shoulder many times when she is online...but these kid's sites seem so innocuous, I'm wondering if she should be on the net at all. But hey, that's pretty unrealistic...no matter how close you watch your children...sooner or later they are gonna test the waters, I guess.

it IS possible

for instance I never had children of my own. But I dig kids and love playing with em. I just don't get to with mine own kids so I have to borrow other peoples.

Absolutely everyone here has valid points. No doubt. Definitely good reason to be freaked out.

That being said....consider this....Captain Kangaroo (Bob Keeshan)...won a bronze star at Iwo Jima. Mr. Rogers was a special forces commando and all tatted up.

All I am saying is that there are full grown adults who really are helpful of children...Hell, I am the babysitter of choice among my friends...I teach them art and cooking...plus I let them braid my hair. Not my friends you idiots!...Thier kids!

Truly watch that beautiful lil munchkin...keep her safe Que....

i completely agree... the kid should be supervised, because the internet is full of sick creeps.
but the assumption originally was that this guy, who did nothing wrong, was "grooming" her for something. I was just curious why that was the immediate conclusion there.

its sometimes so easy to assemble a lynch mob and carry out character assassinations based on emotionally jumping the gun.

Anyhoo, i guess its none of my business really ohwell

Maybe it's another 7 year old with a fake age.

I see profiles on myspace all the time with an age of 101. Most likely someone under 18.
