Topic: Best Memories of the 80's | |
---|---|
Then came the second half of the 80s. The responsibilities. Armed forces. Army. Big red one, little white one. Worst of the first cavalry. Hardcore. Being shot twice in honduras in conflict.Helping get noriega out of panama. College. Lots of college. Too much college. That took me into the 90s. |

I have to chuckle at many of the memories here. Such a great time in life that I would never give up. However, being the stickler for accuracy that I am, I did notice a few discrepancies:
Cheech & Chong, AC/DC, and Van Halen were all products of the '70's. Iron Maiden was formed in '75, but they hit their stride in '80, so that one can slide. Black Sabbath started in '68, and their heyday was in the '70's. Foghat's "Third Time Lucky" was actually released in late '79, so that one can slide, too. Huey Lewis did sue Ray Parker, Jr., for plagiarism because of the similarities between "I Want A New Drug" (1983), and the theme from "Ghostbusters" (1984). They settled out of court, but Huey allegedly breached the agreement by mentioning being paid a settlement sum for the suit on vh-1's "Behind The Music", leading Parker to countersue Lewis. Oddly enough, Lewis had originally been approached to write the music for the "Ghostbusters" movie before Parker, but declined because he was working on the soundtrack of "Back To The Future". Smiley Faces originally started in the early '60's. The earliest reported lawsuit for suing McDonald's for a person spilling hot coffee on themselves was 1992. Technically, CD's were invented in the '70's, but became marketable in '82. Let it slide. And finally, Atari was invented in 1972. Intellivision didn't come along until '79. Either way, they were both early. My point is, these things may have been around in the '80's, but were actually around much earlier. |

One more thing: The Bangles didn't actually have a "lead singer", per se. Susanna Hoffs just happened to get most of the attention (and yes, she's frickin' gorgeous!).
As long as we're on the subject of smokin' hot female rockers, let's not forget about Vixen. |

It's funny....back then, we all had hair "up to here" and "down to there".
Today, the look of choice for most men is to have their head look like a dirty tennis ball. |

Actually did an afternoon rock climbing there, passed out cold in the planters along the side stairs a few times, put the car in a ditch when we were being followed by cops, party got busted and instead of just chasing everyone out, the cops were checking ID's looking for weed & etc, well my sister that I went up there with had left to go get a friend, so I had no place to hide. Started walking down the road, I blacked out, but my sister's friends spotted me walking down the road. "Hey Roach, theres your brother, WTF is he doing????" And Big Wheeling down from the top!!!! I never did it, I got drunk but not that drunk. LOL LOL. |

As far as most of my life events were concerned, the 80's really bit the bag except 2 things:
The birth of my son in 1987, and I began live performing in 1981. For me, the best thing about the 80's was that it was one of the greatest decades EVER for Country Music (and the last one so far): The Judds Ricky Skaggs John Anderson Dwight Yoakam Randy Travis Steve Earle Holly Dunn Alabama (early stuff) Kathy Mattea George Strait and most of the established country artists released some of their best work in the 80's. This stuff not only got me through the 80's, but I LIVED for it. |

In the 80's I found Chet Atkins on an HOB/Showtime special. Here is this old man jammin with Ronnie Wood, and some other rock & rollers and I thought, "Who is this old man, he can play!!!!" I got to see him live one time. He was the man!
(secretly, i listen to some country music) |
