Some people might just not have anything to say. Others probably like to read everything that's posted, without replying to everything. I'm sure there are many other reasons why people look and don't respond.

maybe they are checking on the thought prcess of someone they are interested in

when I was on other sites....

1st...it was new for me...

2nd....I wasn't sure how to respond to what ppl were saying....I still find things said here confusing....possibly it's the ppl who have been here a long time and have been friends....therefore they all understand ....

For so called lurkers...who are unfamilier to what ppl are actually talking about..it's hard for them to jump in....

3rd....what I did for months..is read the post.....and most importantly ...I learned about the ppl...and their personalities..

Then I jumped in..and was able to correspond with so many ppl.....

Until I got permently banded....for sticking up for a few individuals..especially one.....

this person knows who they are....

unfortunately...I must say screw you....

I was a friend...I drove 6 hours to another state to get you because u were so sick and beat up from nasty ppl....not all their fault though....I employed you as best as I could....all the while I was in distress in my own world....I stood by you...and protected you...I even paid for ur medical bills....and so did others....and....you have deserted a true friend....my sons both read you correctly...they used insight....I used my heart and compassion...

so perhaps this is why ppl are lurking...it's called protection from the internet strangers....

Although the person I am speaking about...I still care about this individual....but I have seen here...the individual doesn't give a sh*t about me..

So I protect myself also....I have learned so much in 6 yrs on the net..

I am sure...the lurkers are doing the same...

Lurkers is a sucky word....

They are actually reading,and learning about different topics and different personalities..

Is that so wrong??????

some of them are predatory types who gather personal info (kids names, where you work, stuff like that) that is why I NEVER talk about my personal life or details

Thanks for your...uh...contribution, Zanne, although I didn't really intend for this to be a "venting" venue...just a simple question, as the other sites I belong to do not have a "peeking" tally posted & I found the ratios interesting. As far as the term "lurking" is concerned...so sorry to have perhaps offended you...most understand that the term is said in jest...

A very good friend of mine admitted to "lurking" at me for two whole months before deciding to approach...at first I considered it kinda' creepy, then realized it was rather flattering that he was so interested in my views, opinions, & usually funny posts...

well I agree with you..

yet..my best friend is FBI...

Another is head of ICE vise...

And I am friends with many PA state police...Detectives...

And...many Military ppl.....who would be happy to kick ass..even if they had to ravel..

so I feel secure....and don't worry to much......

I find it weird when someone I've never talked to before wants to know things like what company I work for. Yet, lots of people ask those types of questions right away.
