If I were you I'd get to know people via the forums...that is where I have met most of the people I talk to on a regular basis.
I found my special guy on mingle, and that was a fluke by randomly clicking his profile one night by viewing "who's online" but again, my best suggestion is to talk it up via the forums! Good luck and welcome to Crazyland!
