What good do you think you are doing the person by staying, might I ask? Do you think they would be happy knowing that they are being settled for? Or stayed with out of pity? I personally want to be adored for who I am and definitely number one in the eyes of my partner! Do them a favor and let them find someone who does love them for who they are and wants to be with them!
