I went to my local 7/11 today and they had a sign on the door that they are hiring.

Went in, asked the Manager for an application and get a load of this.

She wouldn't give me one because I'M IN A WHEELCHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it A REAL SLAP IN THE FACE that one of the biggest contributors to "Jerry's Kids", won't hire "Jerry's Kids"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I smell a lawsuit.

And then to top it all off. I was stood up for a date today with someone I met on here.grumble

Before I get into trouble, let me make it clear to everyone i'm not trying to get sympathy. Just letting everyone know how much you can't trust humans. I give up. I'm donetears

sorry about being stood up but maybe it was for the best

So 7-11 isn't an equal opportunity employer? they advertise as one and you got discriminated against- the stench of a lawsuit is strong little one- i seriously would talk to someone about it. JMO

Sorry to hear of your experience, and of being stood up. Their loss.

Check with your states Human Rights Dept., I have run into the same problem in my state, and sometimes it takes a long time to settle, but they should have at least given you an application, without prejudice with their predetermination of your abilities.

sorry for your bad day. people are just idiots sometimes
I originally had on my post that if you are "wheelchair Phobic" let's not waste each other's time, and what happened to me today was the reason I put that on my post.

But I made the mistake of having my profile rated and people were telling me "that sounds too ******" so I changed it, and was outgoing and sweet.........BARF, not me, take me or leave me, I don't care which. Chances are if you don't like me, I don't like you either. But to not even give me a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!! That just hurts.

People are always asking me why I am sooooo shy and I do have a reason for it. I'M TIRED OF BEING HURT BY PEOPLE.

I work at 7/11...next time if you get guff like that ask to speak with the Field Consultant (this is the higher up from the manager), if that fails you can get ahold of corprate because it is blatantly discrimination. The Field Consultant will be able to give you an explanation or even a interview!

Her reason for not giving me an application was this, "If you are not able to do everything, we can't hire you".

Any place I have ever worked at has always crammed "TEAMWORK" down my throat, "LET'S BE TEAM PLAYERS" help each other!

Well, whatever I couldn't do for them, like stock things on shelves that I can't reach, ISN'T THAT WHERE TEAMWORK IS SUPPOSED TO KICK IN?!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry everyonedrinks I think i'm just gonna get drunk and forget

The hours at 7/11 don't work with two people a lot of the time, if you were to get a job you would be better at applying exclusively for 1st shift (this is the shift that almost always has at least 2 people on at a time). Honestly I can only think of a few things that you would be limited at doing, counting cigarettes, stocking the cooler, and possibly beer/liqour depending on how their store is set up. However you should at least get an interview before you are automatically told no, this is where the Field Consultant comes in the Field Consultant works directy for corporate therefore would see how this could limit the 7/11 company.

Best of luck to you, it is not as easy of a job as everyone would have you believe.flowerforyou

Did she say specifically what she thought you would not be able to do? I don't think I would let this one slide. You will likely not get a job there, but not even being allowed to fill out the application is just ludicrous. Someone dropped the ball BIG TIME. Only you can decide if this is a battle worth waging war over.

I called the 7/11 Corp. when I got home and they told me, and I quote, "It's 7/11's policy to not hire anyone that can't do everyting that is expected". Oh yeah, did I mention that their is a step to get to the registers? Not a ramp, a step. Sounds to me like the 7/11 Corp. is "Handicap Phobic"

It's not only that, you have to be able to lift 40 pounds. There is a lot more to 7/11 than you think, we have to count every cigarette pack, stock the cooler daily and the liqour and beer if it applies to the store. There is a lot that someone in a wheelchair would have difficulty with doing, not impossible but very difficult.
