Lets share some local problemsgrumble At the State and local levels only please. No name calling and state where you are from. SWFL, Its a state that is supported by tourism but failed to keep up wages to support The People. People that you then sold into a dream they couldn't afford for growth you wanted.A Lot of people made a lot of money in a short time and and a few are on local boards here that need to go to jail. SwFL is leading the nation in foreclosure!!! How many people have seen their home triple in value since 2001 in other states? This housing market thrived on it. People need to held accountable. Some are "Being" investigated. We will see how that turns out. One other thing in 2001(value went up three fold from 2001) school teachers couldn't afford the housing. Counties that were offering incentives and even thought of paying for dormitory style housing for "There single teachers". Lee County Florida

Florida is a service industry state- the county i live in has one of the highest cost of living in the state and one of the lowest wages. and that my friend is why i am leaving Florida.

The corruption and the cost of living is horrible and noone is being held accountable.

time to go

My biggest problem locally is they went and built this massive elementry school expecting a huge growth to the city... and it's not quite been what they expected. Now the school can't afford anything. Enrollment is expensive, the lunches are double to cost, they have not one single free things for the kids do. Where I came from there was all sorts of school sponsored activities... Not here grumble

And all this time pushing to sell homes at a over inflated prices. I think florida leads the way in the corruption that led to this melt down.

what they pay teachers is a crime!! these are people responsible for educating our country's future!!!! and at least down here in Florida they only teach the info found on the FCAT tests- the schools are graded on how well they did and that is how they get funding!!! its actually disgusting!!

my beef with this town is the town counselors who have ruined the historical quaintness of my town by alowing develpers to build ugly hotels and conference centers and blocking the water front. We have an 3 million dollar new library and they are taking land which was willed to the city to be public use(open land)only and taking it by eminant domain to build a new jr high. The cost of living sucks, the working class can't afford to live here(unless on subsidized housing) and we are overun with ex Bostonians who are determined to make us little Boston.Makes me sick.I have lived here since I was 15 off and on and the urban sprawl is just alarming.

"eminent domain" Issues and laws are something each of us should be aware of in their own state.

Michigan passed a resolution limiting the states power to assert eminent domain.

In past states seeking to expand roads build power plants and other projects benefiting the state could take property paying a fair market price. Then a few years ago some private corporations made the arguement that if they could acquire land for their facilities using eminent domain they would be providing jobs and tax dollars thereby benefiting the community.

It is absolutely wrong for local, state or federal authorities to take land from individuals under the theory of eminent domain and give it to private owners or corporations.

Please, find out what the law is in your state and speak up! You can stop it!

I thought this was a good idea. maybe I should not have open up with housing. But that is my concern locally. Florida went into hyper drive with growth and population. The value of my home double in "Value" for 3 straight years. It went from $70,000 to $200,000 in 3 years. In a market that wages couldnt support the $70,000. Even tho are Million dollar plus homes everywhere. I personaly am taking a hard look at it. I thought people might vent alittle on there local matters. There is all kinds of help out there that will help you understand it.

They were challenged but took it to the state supreme court and won under a obscure law.I know people have fought it in nearby Newmarket and won.Town wanted to take part of a farm that had been in the family for over a hundred years for a new school(again).Family said go jump in the lake and used the media to launch a grassroots campaign against the town. The town backed off.

I was just reading that he is scaling back the wind farm project until the price of oil comes back up. He is only spending $4 million of his money instead of $6 million. Last I heard they were in the process of erecting 300 wind turbines and expected another 300 to go up in the next couple of years (he bought 667 turbines from General Electric)

seems the wind turbines royalties pay the farmers even better than oil wells. every one is clamoring to get one on their property haha

Help!! Confusion Here.More on eminent domain. We have it here but Im not sure and I should be. The Badcock Ranch here and the buying of needs to be looked at. The State could of bought, let a developer buy,it keep some of it and then alowed to sell the rest to the state for more than what it could and should bought first. Its prestine land and I think the develper was able to keep some water rights on the land sold to the state. All this in the middle of our rocket in values.
