How many people here think they act the same way in person as they do online? How many are completely different here than they would be in person? Just wondering, as someone was just telling me that how he is on here is just an act. I'm sure he's not the only one.

I'm sure many people honestly try to act the same as they are in real life.

Apparently in real life (according to my mother) I'm a smarta**, beautiful man-hater. My best friend would likely call me a sarcastic, goofy pushover. Honestly, I think they're both right. I am most of those things.

It all comes down to who you're comfortable saying certain things to. You can only try to force yourself to be as honest as possible...Those who don't, are probably entitled to do so, it's just not as honest as many of us would like.

As far as I am concerned, you'd have to ask anyone that has met me.

I probably say things here that I would be shy about saying in person, but the basic personality is the same...

I can hardly keep up with ONE persona, trying to juggle multiples would be impossible! (and really...does the world need more than one of me? I think not! LOL!)

I always wondered how people could do that. Personally I think it would be really hard to keep up with. I would think sooner or later, you'd slip up and your true colors would come out.

Yeah, I wonder about that as well.

I think I am more open on line than I am in person. In real life I tend to stop freindships and keep them at a superficial level. Maybe a little nicer. You can't see me scowling or rolling my eyes when someone is being a jerk so I might seem more patient. I have told more that one person off with language that would make a longshoreman blush then deleted it or stomped out of a thread and ranted in private. I don't do stupid or selfish in person very well. I have anilalted more than one person verbally in real life for being a bully. In real life I can carry a grudge a lot longer. Not proud of it but know it is true. I do think I am pretty nurtureing in person also. Guess it is the big sister syndrom.

This makes me think about how people dress and act on a first date. Typically, you’ll dress extra nice, make sure you wear cologne, brush your teeth, even have some Tic-Tacs, maybe… LOL. But it takes more than one date to figure out who someone is, to get past the outer appearance and Tic-Tacs and see what really makes them tick-tock.

And the pictures… it makes sense to assume people are going to post the best or at least some of the best they have. Do you really want the entire world to see what you look like 3 seconds after flipping your feet out of bed? Haha… Point being, that there is a heck of a lot more to people that what these Internet sites can express. Its all weighted in the favor of people who are 1) at least fairly computer literate… 2) a person has to have at least a basic control/command of the English language … and 3) either they need to own a digital camera, or they need to know somebody that does… Plenty of great folks who don’t happen to fit into any of those three categories and most likely aren’t here…

Then of course I hear the ladies commenting about the fellas who’s only first message here has something to do about sex, some perverse crap, or the like. I think these guys are definitely NOT the same in person as on line. In person, they are sitting in their safe little computer rooms, wacking their teeny little wieners, and posting those messages here ‘cause they don’t have the balls to be real and develop a friendship, leading to a relationship, leading to REAL sex, etc. Totally the adult sex-site rejects who are most likely married, and never getting some at home. Grow up, guys…

My favorite pretenders are the ladies who e-mail me, and have no picture… usually a quick line about wanting to chat, etc… Borrow a digital camera, ladies… get some photos… it is no fun talking to an “Ask Me For A Photo” box….

I think I am pretty much the same on here as I am in person. Lot’s of thoughts, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound (oh… I shouldn’t give myself away…LOL)… plays guitar, sings, plays Native American flute, honestly looking for a friendship that might develop into a long-term relationship… a bit giddy when I do actually find somebody who likes me… a nice voice if anybody gets the chance to hear it. My profile speaks of who I am, not who I pretend to be.

A very good question, actually… and a good thread. Thanks for starting it…

Oh... and I use a different font when I speak in real life. More of an institutional Times New Roman, rather than the Verdana/Arial stuff seen here....

I'm still the same person after you get to know me, however I do think upon a first meeting I would appear different. I will probably fumble my words, trip over something that isn't there and constantly rearrange my clothing. I won't get your jokes and I'll blush a lot. After I go home I'll think of a thousand witty things I should have said.
