My back up amp is a Crate excallibur, nice amp, but my main is a MarshallJCM900. Since the Marshall is a tube amp, and they do weaken as you play, i use the Crate for practice until we are almost ready to play the venue. Which Crate did you get wolf? |

hmm, i have played for 34 years now, i also work on amps, and other electronics...i have one crate on my bench now...and all it needs is a new gain pot...i have never really had many problems with Crate amps.

I prefer tube amps
but only older ones the new ones just arn't made like they uesd to, to much plastic in them now and to many non user fixable parts |

I do prefer a tube amp......just not very practical for me......also, the warranty now is transferrable... |

I have a vintage Fender tube amp, twin reverb. I have had that since i was thirteen y/o. It still rocks! I do not drag it around though.
As taboo mentioned, Mesa boogie are probably the toughest amps on the market. They can be daisy chained and have incredible tone, even at high input. For me though, i prefer the Marshall, and Ibanez makes a "tube screamer" pedal...you can get for about 30 bucks...and it will give you good quality tube sound, even through a transistor amp. |
