Yay!! Down with coal!!! The jobs the coal miners lose will be replaced with jobs in green technology! Coal is out dated! The damage strip mining does to the landscape is unforgivable, and if you will recall, underground coal mines are unsafe and not properly regulated and pose a significant risk to the miners and their health. Nuclear power may help in the short term, but is not practical due to the problems with the waste, security risks, etc. Wind power, solar, and ideas we haven't even thought of yet are around the corner, as well as ways to make current technologies cleaner and safer. Development of these technologies will bring new jobs and save our economy as well as our environment!! Rejoice in the fact we will have a leader who supports all of these options, and who will protect our environment and help put America on the cutting edge of environmentally sound technology. America will lead the way for the rest of the world by setting the standard! Americans are known for their ingenious inventions! We are about to enter one of the most prosperous times in our history! This is exciting!! GO OBAMA!!

Obama wants to use economic incentives to get the coal burning industry to clean up it's act. We've all seen what industry and banking do when they not regulated and given incentives to conduct business ethically and cleanly.

On the subject of coal.

Americans have short memories it seems.

Think back...remember several mining tragedies that occurred in the last eight years? They happened under the watch of the Bush administration that relaxed rules governing safety inspections of mines.

about half of the country's electricity comes from coal. There'll never be enough wind, solar or anything else to replace that

The United States has more coal than Saudi Arabia has oil

There are a few pilot projects researching ways to clean the CO2 from the emissions. Current technology favors using the CO2 to inject down old wells to enhance production

The United States also has more natural gas than Saudi has oil. THAT is what we should be using. There are 5.7 million natural gas cars in the world. The US has about 100,000.

Coal is primative.

We put a man on the moon in 1969 and we are still burning coal?

We should have put more $$$ into solar R & D.

If we are so technologically advanced, let's act like it.

the state of the art of solar power is only slightly more expensive than oil. It's a nice idea but the technology isn't there yet. Maybe in another twenty years...
