Ok.... here I go...
I am popular on here, there is no doubt about that. If I lived closer to a few people, I would probably already be courted and married! The only down fall is that on here I am approached by idiots. (However, in real life on the very rare occassion I will have some guy make a comment, but this is rare. I had a guy which I had never seen on campus before, trying to strike up a conversation with me as we were talking in opposite directions... 'hey sexy, what ya studying?' Yeah right! *rolls eyes*) Ok... in comparision to online and real life. I do spend more time on the computer then being out there for a number of different reasons. 1. I am a single-mother... don't have a babysitter, money to pay a babysitter, or even money to go out. 2. I can be online and be with my son at the same time. Where I will not bring a date around my son. 3. I can pretend to be working and be online. I am not socially awkward, so that isn't the cause of having more attention online than in real life. I know my @ss is fat, oh well, too bad if you don't want to get to know me b/c I am overweight. I don't know, I am just really wondering if with being online for a period of time, you truly get to know people. And in that you are more open to talking and getting to know people that you would snub on the streets or at the bar. I know I try really hard to have the atttitude of getting to know the person and judge based on superficial attributes. Ok.. this is my personal analysis... I don't know if it maybe any sense, but you are welcome to add comments or observations. |

This was my point yesterday. Are we substituting actual reality with our relationships online? This is much easier but is it as satisfying?

This was my point yesterday. Are we substituting actual reality with our relationships online? This is much easier but is it as satisfying? You know what.... I expect to be disappointed online, so when something doesn't work out it doesn't hurt as much.... but in real life, a guy BFF and I crossed over that friend line and maybe I got a little 'stupid girl' about him spending time with me, and now I am being ignored. So I don't know. I have had some really great online friends that were more fulfilling than some of my real life friendships. |

As long as it works for you it is a good thing as long as it doesn't become a crutch. |

Online friends are friends or acquaintances??? Can be both. what separates the two??? Is this just a mirror image of real life??? acquaintances are people you talk to occassionally and interact with occassionally. friends are people that you talk with generally more regularly or have strong attachments to. |
