It is downtown St. Louis. It shows the Old Courthouse and the Arch. See how it looks with 100,000 people standing there.
It was a sight to see! I was there. We were listening to Obama speak. Can you see me? The Mississippi River is behind the Arch. See the flag hanging? I'm standing in front of it in my photo. It's only about 2 and 1/2 minutes long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm8yhVLdLJk |

The Old Courthouse which can be seen in the background was the site of the Dred Scott Case. It was in this case that the Supreme Court ruled that among other things that African Americans whether free or slave, were not considered citizens of the United States. Chief Justice Roger Taney wrote in the majority decision the African Americans were not included in the Constitution's definition of a citizen. They "had no rights which the white mans was bound to respect."
Thank heaven we have come a long way since 1857. Being a former St. Lousian, can atest to its beauty and historical significance. Just not thrilled with its humid summers. (Sorry Winx... ) |

The photo of me in front of the large flag was taken across the street from the Old Courthouse. We were talking about how far we have come. It felt good. The street in front of the Old Courthouse is now called Dred Scott, btw. Did seeing the video make you feel homesick at all? |

A little. Miss the zoo, art muesum, the river front, WATER, rain, snow (without the cold), the fall colors, Muni Opera, and several other things. St. Louis area has a lot to offer. And boy has it changed from when we first moved there in 1957. Showed my age.
But then like temps that do not drop below the upper 20's and being able to drive up into the mountains when it gets "warm". |
