Iam tired of hearing "omg you're not worried about your baby being around your dogs"

its really getting annoying. Sorry all iam venting.

but i have a 12 year old husky and a 5 year old heeler/rodezion mix there awsome with my daughter (6) and the husky sleeps with my son and i in bed. he loves to sleep next to my son (2 months). i guess i would worry more if he ever acted aggressive toward my kids or other pets. my dogs have been around babys, new born kittens and puppies (not theres i use to work at an animal shelter).

i know animals can be unpredictable. but i see no reason to worry.

iam i insane ???? or just really use to my animals???

I love animals too. I have had many and currently have a dog.

My child has allergies and asthma. I'm not allowed to have the dog in the child's bedroom.

Not insane, you just understand your animals. I understand that something unforeseen can happen and lead to an attack but it all comes down to how the animals are raised.

i think every kid sould have a pet even if its just a fish lol

I get that alot with my dog,
He is a Rottie/Shepard/Pit bull mix
His name is Harley and he is 4 years old and weighs in at 130 pounds.

He is by far the BEST dog i have ever owned loves me my b.f and my daughter (who will be 2) to death.
Kids come by all the time and lay on the ground and play with him he is so gentle and loving.

but i always get the OMg rottie and pit bull you should get rid of him you can't trust him.

If it wasnt for him last year a man broke into my house and Harley chased him right out the back door couldn't imange what would have happened it was midnight and my daughter and i were the only ones at home.

Other than that i have friends and family come in and out and he is Awesome he just knew that guy wasn't susposed to be there.

Animals RULE

Ive always been curious about the intruder or attacker situation with my dog. She is never aggressive towards anyone or anything (besides rabbits and squirrels) so I am hoping that if someone ever breaks in or attacks me she would show some teeth instead of preparing for a belly rub.

I never EVER thought he would be aggressive in the least bit. But when that man came into my house he freaked out.So now it makes me feel alot better knowing when my b.f is out of town working and it's only my daughter and i home he will protect us if needed

my husky has only showed real aggression to one person a door to door saleman trying to push his way in. i could barly hold him back his hackles were up and teeth bared.

we had a friend staying with us, who had it pit mix. i warned him to make noise at night so as not to startle the dogs. lol he didnt and my heeler got his dog to attck him, yup he got bit but his own dog.

my heelers a pistol if she atterts the husky and he protects her and the kids.

He should have went stealth.

The next dog I really REALLY want is either a saint bernard or a english bulldog.

those are my fav breeds, but than again who am i kidding if any dog showed up at my door step
It's happened in the past) I would adopt it after of course posting fliers and etc.

A pot belly pig showed up at my door once I had him for 3 years and he ate dog food lol

I just applied to the SPCA and my b.f is worried what i will bring home next if i get the job.

it's going to be sooo hard not to want to take everything home lol

I don't know, I grew up with a houseful of pets and so did my son. Sure, there's always a risk even with the best brought up and trained animal but there's a risk crossing the street. Do what you're comfortable with and be willing to accept the responsibility and potential consequences. That's all you can do.

I think having pets around young children is something one has to really think through and make considerable effort to provide segregated space for each when constant supervision is not possible. Pets need some place safe and comfortable to escape both indoors and out. That is not just a cage where they can't escape being banged on, poked, and generally harrassed or made sore in a cramped space.

Children are rarely considerate of animals and under many situations hurt the animal even when trying to be affectionate. It is so impossible when an animal reacts in a split second and the injuries can be profound. Animals interacting with children as surrogate parents can injure a child without even meaning too. Larger pets can easily break or crush a child with out realizeing it. And children rolling over or flopping on a pet can also cause serious internal injuries or broken limbs and ribs. Pets should ALWAYS be fed in segregated areas because it is just instinct to protect their food.

If you ever experience the guilt of allowing a pet to hurt your child I promise you it will stay with you a very long time. People who warn you about these possibilities are not always harrassing you but trying to spare you and your child heartache.

Having a pet in the home with an asthmatic/allergic child is a dangerous thing. It is not realistic to think that you can segregate the hair, dander, and fleas that migrate when and animal shares the home because if the microscopic nature of the allergins. My experience the feeling crummy because you have low grade chronic reaction and having to tolerate the side effects of medication is miserable. I guarantee it affects a child's ability to do well at school. When it is severe it is frightening and very expensive; sometimes fatal. As you get older it gets worse and really compromises the quality of life.

I raised my children around animals all their lives. I think it depends on the temperment of the said animal.
You do mention a 12 year old husky that is kind of old and I think I would watch him but other than that I dont' see aproblem
Heck one of my shelties used to baby sit my youngest I would tell him to watch the baby when I would let my two year old out in the yard "Baron" wouldn't let him near the fence since he was a climber
I think people that aren't around animals may have more problems than not
