Topic: The Adult Factor..... | |
---|---|
Yesterday I reach a new stage in what I call The Adult Factor. You know, those little steps you take toward thinking, acting, and actually being an adult! I'm in pretty good shape in that regard, for the most part, but there was one area I still had to deal with as far as my ex. CARS!!
In our 16 years of marriage we had over 100 cars, with 14 of them being Corvette's. It was an issue we fought about alot, mainly because it didn't make sense to be spending so much money on yet another car when we didn't need it, and he didn't work or pay the bills...just spent it! Anyway, until Saturday I always viewed guys that are "motorheads" with a weary eye, and usually glared at guys in Corvette's when they drove by! Stupid, I know, especially because I do appreciate the knowledge, expertise and care some people put into their "rides." Anyway....I passed a guy having trouble with his Corvette, hood up and overheating, and I actually said, "Poor guy. That sucks!" MAJOR PROGRESS ~ next time I might even stop! What "ah ha" moments have you had that made you realize you were moving beyond an old bias or issue and into the realm of being an adult and letting it go? |

What's an adult? I'm getting smarter but being an adult is still optional IMO. |

I'm a mechanic, car guy & a kid at heart

I dunno - maybe writing the checks this morning for my mortgage, utility bills, insurance, my children's doc bills, etc. made me semi-adult like.
But, then having my little girl beat the crap out of me playing the card game Spit brought me back down a notch. |

I understand completely...nothing like paying the bills to remind you of the many responsibilities demanding your attention. Kids are great about helping you keep things in perspective and finding a balance between doing what you must, and enjoying what you should! Play Scrabble next, I bet YOU win this time! |

I used to have this bias towards women who shop for purses all the damn time. But now, I feel that I know how to handle this. See, if she wants a purse, then I will just go and buy something for myself....like maybe porn or maybe even.....a Corvette.
