a while back i posted a thread about southern cooking in all its aspects. today i went to the nc state fair, and they have taken frying things to a sinister level. i even went so far as to call them out on it. the fair in nc is famous for frying just about anything you can think of and some you cant. ie, pickles, oreos, twinkies, candy bars, and some other things. but what i saw today made even my eyes bug out. they had such things as fried pecan pie, fried pb&j sandwiches, and other things that made a southern cook like me wonder what the hell the fair has come to. if its a publicity stunt,, they took it way to far. some things just dont get fried. who in their right mind would ever fry banana pudding??? theres just some lines you dont cross,, and they didnt cross it, they slingshotted into the realm of what the f#$% are they thinking????

i couldnt even bring myself to try any of it. call me nuts, but banana pudding should be served the way it was made,, with nilla wafers, pudding, bananas and meraunge. not battered after being froze and deep fried.
