Whats your take on this my sons 7 weeks and is now on zentac for reflux.
When he was born his blood suger crashed, and he was in the NICU for 4 days, hes been back in the hospital for 4 days and 3 trips to the er (he been fussy, non stop crying, cry when touched, stopped eatting, vomiting, spitting up). they finally changed his formula thinking that was the problem, but after changing it not hes not eatting well, on when he's starving. iam still not convienced that he should be on meds. |

I would say seek out a specialist and most definately follow your instincts on some things.. Also, check into colic.. my oldest had colic when he was a baby and omg it was aweful.. he CRIED non stop and it was all we could do to just comfort him.. there were a lot of sleepless nights.. I have 4 kids and they all were different babies.. I had one that when he was born the hospital said he had some form of strep but he showed no signs of being ill and when they were going to try and do a spinal tap they realized that there was nothing wrong with him because a sick child would be very lethargic and my son would not even lie still for a second he was very alert and active even as a newborn thats when the hospital realized that nothing was wrong.. I personally blamed it on some dirty gloves LOL (long story) anyway.. just talk seriously with your doctor...(a doctor you TRUST) and be honest and forthcoming with all your concerns and what is going on and also make sure you understand everything before you leave...

Zantac is not just an adult med. My daughter has been on it for years and it controls her reflux very nicely. There are no side effects that I remember, I'm sure you can read your insert for all that or google it.
Talk to the doc and get more information but Zantac is very safe to give kids for reflux. I would be more interested in the bigger picture. Get an appt. with a Gastroenterologist at the local Childrens Hospital if you have one close. They will be very helpful to you. p.s. I have dealt with reflux issues for 11 years with my kiddo, if you need anything or just someone to talk to, feel free to email me. |

My daughter had some of the same issues from birth i couldn't even breast feed.Had to be placed on hypoallergenic formula and fed approx every hour and was on zantac. We had feeding issues till she was about 4 months old and could never take reg or soy formula.
It took two specialist to come to figure it out. I'd seek one out. |

Have you tried rice formula?
I has a similar condition when I was a newborn and that is the easiest formula on the stomach. It turned out it was allergies that I outgrew very quickly after getting my amenity back up to par. I would try to find an old school doc who will try to treat with dietary changes first and drugs last. Frankly, I wouldn't give adults most adult meds. As an adult, I had a bought of acid reflux that was turned around completely with diet and has never returned. I believe most meds treat symptoms and not causes, and I believe most causes are dietary in nature. But that's just me. Wishing the best for your son, hon! |

i know my situation is much different, but when i was 16 i was prescribed a medicine which was later recalled because it caused heart problems, etc. I had a terrible reaction to it, but was luckier than some others. We didn't find out until reading the recall that it was intended for only adults...
The 3 pieces of advice I'd like to offer are: 1. find out how long the drug has been on the market ***only use new drugs if there aren't any other better options*** 2. if the drug is supposed to be only for adults, ***find out why its only recommended for adults & what problems might arrise from giving it to children, the side effects (for both adults and children), etc. from a reliable internet site or book*** 3. double check drug interactions using a reliable internet site or book i think in some cases, maybe having children take new drugs or drugs meant for adults must be necessary... you just have to make sure FIRST that you have explored other options if they are available good luck with everything |
