jessica has obviously never seen a dog attack or been attacked by a dog... I have... I have seen a dog KILL a little old lady because it was loose and could... I understand that it is the owners responsibility to make sure that the dog is taught right and how to obey but just like humans and monkeys and elephants.. dogs can just go crazy and if a dog is continually coming onto my property, scaring my children, or attacking my animals I WILL SHOOT IT! just as if it were a crocidile or a bobcat... I WOULD shoot it in the head if possible.. Call me cruel and inhuman if you like but I will be damned if some freaking uncontrollable animal is going to hurt me or my family.

And yes I have seen a dog attack, but I've never seen a dog attack that it's owner was good to the dog. If it's attacking your animals, call the cops, if it's killing your animals, then do what you have to do. If its physically touching you or your family, do the same, do what you have to do, but if it's just being agressive, call the cops. If a man was yelling at you on your property, and threatening you, would you shoot him? No, you wouldnt. Because unfortunatley its a crime, but for an animal it's not, and that's what has society brain washed. Do me a favor, read, 'Hidden life of dogs' and then tell me what you think.

There's quite a bit of holes in the above argument - namely - "if its physically touching you or your family, do the same, do what you have to do, but if it's just being aggressive, call the cops." It's very difficult to anticipate what a dog will do unless your a qualified expert. Having said that, reasonable judgement should be exercised in those situations. I can't speak for anyone else, but in my opinion, I think reasonable judgement was indeed exercised based on the information provided; more specifically, the history of transgression. Simply put, who wants to risk the injury of your child waiting to see if the dog will bite them first.

They both are. The dog owner for not doing something about the dog & the shooter for shooting the dog in the leg. ln omaha pitt bulls are becoming a problem & i do not trust them nor will i ever. That is the only dog breed i have no problem with seeing them banned or worse in my city. A little girl got her scalp ripped off for no reason by this pitt bull dog& it should die for that end of question.

Unfortunatley I agree with the pit bull thing. I saw a special on dogs, and they said that trusting a pit bull would be like trusting a 'tamed' bear. Unfortunatly pit bulls are seen more and more like an object that makes others look 'cool'.

There are some counties in Florida that have already banned owning a pit bull.

Who's responsible?

On the news today...a man shot a dog with a bb gun. BB lodged in leg. He had talked to the neighbors about their dog, he had children who were afraid of it and it was constantly coming into his yard. (this is in the country, not the city where animal control is easy to get). Anyway, he talked, his wife had made several phone calls asking them to keep the dog away from their home, they wrote them letters asking the same.

The man is being sued for the dogs vet bill, pain and suffering (for the dog) and emotional distress for the pet owners!

Who really is responsible?

Pet owners are responsible here and they should thank their lucky stars the situation isn't reversed and they aren't being sued for injuries, pain and suffering to a child. I find it interesting the pet owners couldn't be bothered with containing their dog but when there's an opportunity to cash-in on their neglect, they spring into action...ka-ching.

That's what I was beginning to think too, it really wasn't about that animal, it was more about how much money they might could get.

Yelling at me, no, I'd just yell back....Threatening me, you bet I'd take some kind of action and probably a very unpleasant one!

The police force here have to have extra defensne traininng here aganst pitt bulls & its because whenever they go serve a warrent the person thats beinng served sicks a pitt bull on them & its nasty. Ive seen the footage from a few specific cases. Pbs are bred for fighting& agression & that will not come out of them. A couple had a pittbull& then had a baby well thedog didnt like that so it ripped theface off the baby& killed it. Nice huh?

I call animal control, they bring out a live cage/trap with food in it, and I monitor it. If said doggies go in...I call the sheriff's office & they come pick them up. The owners have to pay boarding fees, license fee, and spay fee. If it acts viciously & we can't trap it, I dose food with a sedative (from the pound) and we knock his mean ass OUT...then owners also have to pay a public nuisance fee. After a couple hundred $$$$, they keep their dogs at home.

If dog tries to attack me or mine before I can take these steps...I don't use bb's, and problem is permanently resolved. There's mercy, and there's common sense.
