Right now I am still at the Spiderman stage. My son is only 5, but everything HAS to be Spiderman. From his bed set, to his clothing, I bought him Spiderman 1,2, and 3. Just for him to only be interested in the opening creditsnoway. From his toothbrush, to his shoes he wears, it HAS to be Spiderman. Should have seen the fight when I refused him the Spiderman TVnoway laugh .

It seems like yesterday I bought my daughter a 5 dollar doll and she was thrilled. Last week I bought her a 2006 Jeep Liberty. I feel your pain.

It's called marketing! I was always thrilled when I was younger to get a new toy, most costing a dollar...lol. Now every kid wants anything they see on television...and we as parents of course want our kids to be happy...it's just making the decision as to what to buy for them....and I also feel that a parent needs to decide when enough is enough. It seems the more you do for a child these days, the more they expect from you

Yeah its tough.
One day my daughter descrbed the morning sunrise as..
Deep Barbie Pink.

And she was 15 at the time, we both laughed pretty hard about that.

I have explained to my girls what Media Manipulation is, how they try to get you to want something so they can sell it to you.

Watch a small child when the TV is on, they won't be paying attention to it, then when a commercial come on, and I don't think it matters what it is they will turn and look. I think it has to do with sound, becasue I notice the sound levels change when a commercial come on.

My 16 yo daughter just got accepted to be a People to People Student Ambassador and will be going to China next summer...trip of a lifetime.. cost only $6000. But this single mom is gonna bust her butt to make sure my daughter gets to go.

Try going to thrift stores for toys.....oh and my sister goes to this place in Vancouver that they trade toys and when they are done, they trade for something else. Great idea!

Whisper it's true, kids are not satisfied with simple toys, consumerism is what keeps the economy & goverment rolling. Clothes, food, school supplies are all linked not just to commercials but actual movies & TV shows & kids are led to believe they NEED this stuff.
