Could you sum that up in a paragraph or 2 Tribo.Miles

Why certainly - Cosmos' tried with all that was stated in the word of his god to show how the other thinkers of the day were wrong in contending the world was "FLAT" or really [in Cosmos case] more like a sea chest with 4 sides and a domed top to be more precise. [1st paragraph]

needless to say it was found out to be approx. round. he and the other well intentioned men who held this and flat ideas were proven wrong!
As i stated, with all there ideology of god and righteousness as well as a fervent belief in their supposed knowledge of gods word - they were wrong - just as today, a lesson to be learned my friend, all that man thinks he knows rightly by the word of his god, - no matter how much faith he may have in his god and his own correctness will eventually be proven wrong. It's a matter of time not faith - a matter of discovery, not belief, a matter of truth not speculation, a matter of fact not fiction, a matter of understanding not guidance by those who think they have a special spirit of god guiding them to the ultimate truths. {2nd paragraph] bigsmile

Well they just did not know the scriptures very well. It says the earth is a circle. its inhabitantants are as grasshoppers and the atmosphere is like a tent holding the heat in. How much more of a better discription of the earth and how the heavens are made up could thier be to men back then? Shalom..Miles

it's because men want to follow their own resoning my friend - just like the present time - and claim it's the infallible word of god instead of their own corrupted minds.

yet you'll spend hours responding to stupid stuff on here? - tongue2

honestly what i was getting at is here is a monk i think it was 6th century writing 10 short books about how the bobble states, and god, that the world is flat talking about its corners etc, and putting down the past thinkers of his time who were or had claimed the earth was round. now his exegesis of everything is sound, he has a heart for his god and is totally immersed in his word - in every way he is a christian in belief and devoutness and sanctimony, just like those evangelicals and others today, he gives his best to the argument but as we know now he was wrong - dead wrong!! Moral? - no matter how right you think you may be about what the book says, doesn't mean it's so! of course like Miles, you can [with hindsight] make the claim that Isaiah states it's circular, but its just an after thought. almost all believers then, as you know, thought the earth was flat for centuries a false teaching accepted as gods pure truth. and it continues on even today with things like the fig tree being a sign of the end times for jerusalem.

Thanks. Yep I was just talking about that yesterday to a couple of friends. We were marveling at the gullibility of a large group of people who still believe in absurd myths written about in a 2000 year old book.

I have not been spending as much time on this club as I used to. I've been too tired and too busy. But I try to look in every now and then and add my two or three cents.

Someone has to keep you on your toes Tribo. laugh laugh
