Let me remind everyone that there is enough blame to go around. both parties are at fault for this mess. enough articles have been posted to remind people of that.

I originally asked for thoughts on Clean Coal and where people think it might lead if America pursues this. I gave specific examples about how coal is steadily affecting my energy bill every month. I don't have a link to support it, but I do have a letter from EPB stating this very same thing. It has also been on the news.

I really have doubts about "clean coal." Coal is a filthy fossil fuel, and I wonder if the cost to "clean" it as a high-volume energy source is worth it. It seems nearly all of the alternatives (wind, solar, nuke) have an environmental downside. We'll need to balance a combination of technologies, but one thing is for sure, we need to OWN the market for some of these alternative energy before someone else does.

It really makes me wonder how much more growth this planet can accommodate. And if markets can't grow, what happens to our capitalist system then?

coal, shale oil, petroleum...

it's all a way to realease the carbon stored zillions of years ago

the problem is that these methods return the carbon to ecosystem too fast. the planet went through a phase where the atmosphere was very high in carbon (dioxide) and the plants flourished storing that carbon for thousands of years. now we are returning that carbon but in a period of hundreds of years and returning the planet to that overheated carboniferous time

Besides that its outdated technology..The problem is they control the new technology..Its all about the all mighty $$$$$$$$

THAT is my premise

internal combustion is the technology of the 20th century. it's inneficient, outmoded, and obsolete. and we are hanging on to it too hard and too long

the new wave of technology is coming and we're still worrying about drilling in ANWAR (too expensive) and the coastal shelf

T Boone Picken (a lifelong oilman and familiar name to us Texas oli people) is trying to lead the change. but not many people are actually listening

he is putting in a windfarm between Lubbock and Amarillo using $6 million of his own money

gonna be the largest windfarm in the world providing 20% of Texas energy

you should see all the trucks on the interstate bringing the parts to the turbines. One truck can carry two blades. and there are dozens of em passing through here every day

I agree...we do need to OWN them. I don't want some foreign co. to come in & take over.

As far as the economy & the markets... what would be so wrong with downsizing their value? Or else having a year of jubliee...WORLWIDE. Whatever you have you have...car...home...buz... it's yours. Wipe all DEBT clean. Start over with money in the banks.

The only thing that I'm not sure of would be investments. Maybe...just maybe... they wouldn't be as dire. What says YOU?

Thats pretty socialist but why bail out the tops nuts???? lets bail the bottom nuts out... The market will rebound and our economy will grow. The states will be better off, more property taxs paid, and home values will come back up faster and we wont end up in a depression because it dosnt work..

Everybody wants a piece of that 700 billion dollars!

Talk about greed! That would make us no better than them and only sinks us to their level.

I don't want them giving me sh!t, make no mistake, they wouldn't be giving you nothing that didn't come with a hefty price tag in the long run!

Personally, I say let the cards fall where they may. Personally I think I would come out better. I own my home, I could survive. But if you are going to do it make sure it works..
