Your banks widened
It's as if you sleep So peaceful, calm Barely rolling along Foliage in oranges Yellows and reds Stand like soldiers Saluting a yawning Faucet flowing gently Changing with the seasons You rush with melting snow Running rampant with debris Destructive floods Pouring through foundations Filling hearts with fear Summer canoes dance Among your waves Happy faces immersed Enjoy tranquil warm Waters and laughter Echoes from your shores I've stood to admire you Rolling along Giving and taking As I cast a pole Or casually linger With you in a boat I've felt your power Waves both crashing and dancing As I reached my destination You give and take life You waltz and rage From rivulets you prosper Forming a rampant river I know your fury I witness your transformation A small boy growing into a man Changing with the tides of life Oh so powerful in one season Barely rolling along in the next You are to be both feared And admired as your shores Change with the seasons of life SDF 9-26-08 |
