I was reading forums on another site, and someone was asking people what they thought could be done to create a better dating site.

A lot of people wanted to establish special criteria, such as "no members who didn't have at least an Associate's Degree" or "no members allowed if they have STDs" or "no people who drive a Ford Focus" or whatever.

Well, I got to thinking about it, and I realized that, if there was a site for people with no kids, and who were non-drinkers, and who could read and write and spell and use apostrophes correctly, I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat.

And then I realized I'd be the only one on there.

I actually did run across a site for people with no kids once, but all the members were uberyuppie-types, whose wallets were filled with pictures of boats and Swiss chalets instead of children. Not much difference except you need less diapers for a boat or a Swiss chalet....

Talk about high standards. I mean, I understand no STD's and things like that. But deciding whether or not to talk to somebody just because of an education? Or because of the type of car they drive? That's just shallow. Nobody is perfect, we all have flaws in one way or another.

Do I have a college education? No. It wasn't available to me. My family didn't own a vacation home and a yaht, my parents both work in factories, and worked 60 hours a week to provide everything they could for their children because they're parents couldn't afford college either.

Now I work in the same factory my Dad works in. Am I doing something about it? Yes. I'm going to school in January for Criminal Justice. Because now there are plenty of opportunities for loans and grants that my parents didn't have.

As for the type of car someone drives? Idiotic. I drive a Dodge Neon. Why? Because that's what I can afford. Standards are fine, but there are plenty of people who go beyond having standards, and become insensitive to people who are less fortunate than them.

I thought the educational standard was a bit elitist, but maybe that's because I could only put up with a couple years of college before the whole "formal education" experience grated beyond my tolerance level.

I have noticed that there's no real correlation between "years of education" and anything that would remotely hold my attention for more than 11 seconds, so that's a non-starter.

The STD thing -- well, yeah, OK, it's a consideration.

The Ford Focus thing I made up, because I thought it was just silly enough that someone MIGHT actually base a preference on it (like age, or what kind of house a person lives in, or something insubstantial like that).

now i know that this will sound like shameless brown-nosing and it won't help when i say that i am sending copies of this to Mike, Van and Charles, but really this is very very close to the ideal dating site right here...except for all the whiny nice guys, and those who have capitalization "ISSUES"

if only it were called justsayhi and there was no need for moderation.... and the default color scheme was blue and white, and the default settings were show all friends and testimonials, and the email was guaranteed private, and you could read everyone's post history, and search the post history, and modify any of your old posts, and there was no need for a rate-me forum, and no one paid any attention or age, race, or pics,...

then it'd be perfect!

It's true -- I've met 9 people from dating sites, and 8 of them were were about as deceptive as you can get without your pants actually being on fire....

The other one was apparently flame-retardant....
