That kids don't have a thing to say to you until you get on the phone or go to the bathroom??  My daughter has been in her room UNTIL my phone rang then she runs out to tell me something. Happens all the time
next time shes watching her cartoons and really into it start talking to her about everything and anything. thats what i used to do
