Who else loves thier bread machine? I have 2 got the second one for a buck at a yard sale, new still in the box. It has a quickbread cycle & I am trying it for the 1st time with Amish friendship bread.http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Amish-Friendship-Bread-I/Detail.aspx
I got the starter from a friend at work, but you can start your own. It's a type of sourdough, but the recipies are like a quickbread.
I have had my other machine for years. With bread getting so expensive in the grocery store I am using it more often. It makes good dough for pizza & cinnamon rolls also.

My mom has one and she loves it, although she said the mixes from Williams Sonoma don't work.

I don't eat much bread but for those that do it is a great option. Do you really find you save money?

I figured out it costs me about 50 cents to make a loaf of bread & I know exactly what's in it. I buy bulk ingredients at the Amish store. Yeast is particular is much cheaper there, & they have a great variety of flours.

This reminds me I have one to try out. You are right bread is getting expensive and so often it is stale or begining to mold when you buy it. Any suggestions besides keeping it in my tiny refrigerator?

I find the store bought bread lasts a long time because of the preservatives in it. My homemade bread is stale in 2 days, but then I toast it & I am satisfied. Even if I throw some out, it's cheaper & better than the store bought.

I used to use mine all the time, rarely bought bread. I need to start doing that again. Cheaper and so much better tasting and much, much healthier!

It's surprising to read a bread wrapper, and compare it to your recipes for homemade, it's like two totally different things!

Tell me about it! I was on chemo and found I couldn't tolerate any kind of chemical, preservative, artificial almost anything, I made a lot of things myself. Now that I'm better, I've gotten lazy frown

My son is gluten free, dairy free, and soy free so having a bread machine has been the way to go for me. I love the way fresh baked bread smells too. yum

post note:

The amish bread was undercooked after the bread machine cycle finished baking it in the oven & it was delishious, but obviously needs adjustment forthe machine. I'll try again this weekend.
