how did we end up looking for dates online,
it wasn't like that before and there where more happy marriages
it was easy to find someone to share time and love with
now we have to come to the net...
why and how did we end up here? huh?

good question makes you wonder if we are playing a little to much with
the winds of fate

It's the Lazy way to meet someone because it's easier. There are so many
advantages to meeting someone that end up being disadvantages to a long
term relationship:

People don't have to worry about the fear of rejection (because who
cares about being rejected by someone you haven't met).

Additionally everyone has a 6th sense when they meet someone and it's
easy to hide a "Bad Vibe" because they're on the computer and others
can't sense it.

People can learn what a person wants and try to be thator pretend to be
someone they aren't which ends up a disaster for a Long Term
relationship as that true person ends up showing up in the longrun (Ya
can't change your spots).

All are very common and none are good for long term relationships!

We became too busy with our lives, too scared to go out and meet
people,online dating opens up a whole new world of people that we would
not ordinarily have access to in our every day lives. Also a lot of
people live in small towns and the dating scene in small towns really
sucks, most everyone is married or attached in some way and the ones
who are not well either you've dated them and found them to be not what
you were looking for or they were just not dateable to begin with.The
divorce rate went up in the early 70's, because it was made easier to
get a divorce and a lot of people decided that they would not take the
crap anymore from a bad marriage. Since it was made easier to divorce
people now just give up too easily instead of working through things.

Online dating can be a wonderful and amazing thing and we all know it
can be a bad thing, come on we all hear the news stories of the bad
stuff about it. But so can regular dating.

I do think it is a time issue. We (ppl in general) seem to be busy with
work, kids, etc.

just as u can on here. for havent u been lied to? from someone u met in
person? geesh i have... if u are smart enough u can weed those out...i
think online you can learn the person within much more... of what they
say to u(which u can do in person) yes u can look in their eyes and read
facial expressions.. if u get a webcam <which all can do> for u can get
to know the insides much better rather fake or not before u have the
<touch> which i feel is a good thing....deb

Me thinks, everyone is pipe dreaming here. We are developing good
friendships here, but I don't think you can find a true love based on
words on a screen.

Finding new great friends...absolutely!!!

Sure you can lie in person or be lied to in person, but I think it's a
lot easier to tell when someone is lieing in person. Button's, normally
when someone comes up to you and trys to hit on you, "How many do you
end up talking to for more than 5 minutes?". In the real world you just
blow them off and move onto the next, but on the net if you blow someone
off they can come back in a different way (specially after they read
what you're about or what you like either via your profile or these
posts on the Forum).....IMO....

for me .... i like to be me... seems to me that one has to get to me
not for my looks on here but more for my personality on here... and
