I thought I'd help you all out a little. I can not believe what I read earlier. A poster actually wrote that Palin had more U.S. and World experience then Obama and Biden combined.

So I thought I would post some information on Biden and clear up that myth.

Biden has served over 30 years in the Senate and is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, He served as the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee for 16 years, including an extended term as Chairman from 1987-95. Today, Senator Biden is the Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs.

Senate Approves Biden's National Child Protection Improvement Act
October 18, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC -- Last night the United States Senate unanimously approved bipartisan legislation authored by Senators Joe Biden (D-DE) and Strom Thurmond (R-SC) to protect children, the elderly and individuals with disabilities by providing non-profit groups with easy access to thorough, efficient criminal background checks.
The National Child Protection and Volunteers for Children Improvement Act provides $100 million to establish a clearinghouse within the Justice Department to perform nationwide criminal history records checks. The background checks will be provided to organizations which utilize volunteers for a minimal fee and to all other organizations that serve children, the elderly and individuals with disabilities for $18 per check.
"In their efforts to provide care for America's children, groups like the Boys & Girls Clubs currently depend on a confusing, ineffective, and costly system that leaves kids, the elderly and other vulnerable people at risk," said Biden, Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs. "Approval of this measure brings us one step closer to ensuring our kids, our grandparents, and those with disabilities are safe when they place their lives in the hands of employees and volunteers for organizations that provide care, treatment, education and training."
Praising Senator Bidens efforts in spearheading this initiative, Robbie Callaway, Senior Vice President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, noted: "Your bill will provide groups like Boys & Girls Clubs of America with real and easy access to criminal background checks so that we can quickly and absolutely ascertain that the staff and volunteers who come into contact with our young people have only the best of intentions."

Biden-Brownback Measure Calling for the U.S. to Support a Federal Iraq Passes as Part of the Department of Defense Conference Report
Biden Efforts to Bar Permanent Bases in Iraq and Protect Troops with Mine Resistant Vehicles Also Included in Report
Washington, DC - The U.S. Senate passed legislation today, sponsored by Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) and Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), which calls for the United States to support a political settlement in Iraq based on a federal system of government. The Biden-Brownback measure - which passed as part of the Department of Defense Conference report - has garnered overwhelming bipartisan support in both Houses of Congress and would require a major strategic shift in the Administration's Iraq policy. President Bush vetoed the original Department of Defense Authorization report in December because of an unrelated issue that Congress subsequently addressed.
"We have both sides of the aisle, both sides of the U.S. Capitol, saying to the President: abandon this flawed strategy of yours in Iraq and change course. Everyone agrees that there is no pure military solution in Iraq. There has to be a political solution and that begs the question: what is it? Congress has again answered that question with one voice" said Senator Joe Biden

BIDEN Calls on White House Counsel Fielding to Ensure President, Vice President Preserve Documents Relating to Destroyed CIA Interrogation Tapes
December 11, 2007

Washington, DC - Former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) sent a letter to Fred Fielding, Counsel to the President, asking him to confirm that the White House and the Office of the Vice President are preserving all documents related to the Central Intelligence Agency's policies and programs regarding the detention and interrogation of individuals involved in international terrorism. In the past, the Office of the Vice President has argued that it is not subject to Executive Orders regarding the preservation of documents. Sen. Biden's letter comes just days after reports that White House officials were aware of the existence of CIA interrogation tapes and were involved in discussions regarding whether they should be preserved.
The full text of the letter follows.
December 11, 2007
Mr. Fred Fielding
Counsel to the President
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Fred:
On December 10, 2007, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino stated that you issued a written directive to White House employees to preserve documents related to the destruction of the CIA interrogation tapes. Ms. Perino did not provide a copy of the directive, however, and she was unable to answer questions as to its breadth and scope.
Please confirm that the directive to preserve documents applied to the Executive Office of the President, including the National Security Council, in addition to immediate White House staff. In light of the Office of the Vice President's record of fatuous arguments that it is not subject to the authority of the President, please also confirm that the directive included the Office of the Vice President and that the Office of the Vice President intends to comply.
I appreciate your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

BIDEN Calls on Mukasey to Appoint Special Counsel to Investigate CIA's Destruction of Interrogation Tapes
December 9, 2007

Washington, DC - Former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and current Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) called on Attorney General Michael Mukasey today to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate the CIA's destruction of interrogation tapes:
"Under federal law, the Attorney General may appoint a Special Counsel to prosecute matters when he or she determines that an investigation by the Department itself would present a conflict of interest, or there are other extraordinary circumstances and it would be in the public interest to do so. I believe these conditions are met.
"This is a White House that has sanctioned and pushed for the kind of interrogation techniques captured on those video tapes. This is a White House that was informed of the CIA's desire to destroy those tapes. Thus, it is possible this investigation could lead to the White House. For these reasons, I believe the CIA's destruction of these interrogation tapes meets the extraordinary circumstances criterion and it would be in the public's interest for Attorney General Michael Mukasey to appoint a Special Counsel to do an independent investigation."

BIDEN Legislation Authorizing Helicopters for the Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur Passes Appropriations Committee
May 16, 2008

Washington, DC – A provision authored by Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) authorizing the President to provide U.S. helicopters to the U.N.-A.U. joint peacekeeping force in Darfur passed the Senate Appropriations Committee as part of the FY08 Supplemental Appropriations Bill. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called helicopters indispensable for the peacekeeping mission and for months has asked for 24 tactical and utility helicopters, but to date only four vehicles with sufficient capabilities have been committed. Sen. Biden’s provision authorizes the President to transfer U.S. helicopters from the Department of Defense inventory to assist the joint U.N-A.U. force in Darfur.

“We cannot allow genocide and suffering to continue because the combined nations of the world cannot find 24 helicopters to help stop it. That is inexcusable,” said Senator Biden. “It’s true that these helicopters alone will not save Darfur – Darfur desperately needs more peacekeepers – but without mobility, troops cannot do their jobs

March 8, 2008

Washington, DC — Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) called on his colleagues to support anti-torture legislation following President Bush's veto of the FY08 Intelligence Authorization Bill earlier today. The Intelligence Authorization legislation contained an important anti-torture provision that would prohibit the CIA from using any interrogation technique not authorized by the US Army Field Manual, which explicitly prohibits waterboarding and other "acts of violence or intimidation, including physical or mental torture, or exposure to inhumane treatment."
