I would just be honest and tell you that while I care about and for you, maybe even have a love for you, I don't feel for you in "that way". (same way I let everyone down
 )

i would definatley not do what happened to me... i would be honest and tell you that i am not interested in you that way and be friends and take it from there.... |

I think it all depends on the approach that you took and what reason I had for turning you down. I'm fortunate in that I have never had to tell someone directly that "I'm just not interested in them". Typically there is something that stands out that I can use to let them down gently and not hurt their feelings.
