Who writes Wikipedia

Volunteers do not need any formal training before creating a new article or editing an existing article. The people who create and edit articles in Wikipedia come from countries all around the world and have a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Anyone who contributes to this encyclopedia is called a "Wikipedian".

Wikipedia:About

This is an introduction to the Wikipedia project for visitors.

'The wikipedia.org Web site, Wikipedia's homepage for all languages.Wikipedia (pronounced /ˌwiːkiˈpiːdiə/ or /ˌwɪkiˈpiːdiə/) is a multilingual, Web-based, free content encyclopedia project'.

Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Since its creation in 2001.

'EVERY day HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of visitors from around the world make TENS of THOUSANDS of EDITS and CREATE THOUSANDS of New Articles'

[interesting statement]

Visitors DO NOT need specialized qualifications to contribute, since their primary role is to write articles that cover existing knowledge;

this means that people of all ages and cultural and social backgrounds CAN write Wikipedia articles.
Most of the articles 'CAN BE EDITED by Anyone with access to the Internet',
'SIMPLY by CLICKING the edit this page link'.

'Anyone is welcome to add information',
cross-references or citations....

Because Wikipedia is an ongoing work to which, in principle, anybody can contribute, it differs from a paper-based reference source in important ways. In particular, older articles tend to be more comprehensive and balanced, while newer articles MORE frequently contain significant MISINFORMATION, unencyclopedic content, or vandalism.
*side note-unencyclopedic isn't a word* shocked (wikipedia used it not me)

'Users need to be AWARE of this to obtain valid information and avoid misinformation that has been recently added', etc... it goes on.. and on...

you have to click around to find out what wikipedia says about what they are and aren't.

They do say they will remove unrelated subject material. But if you browse through wikipedia or have spent time fact checking this you would know.

Btw.. this is beside the point, any site that has admissions that can be edited by basically a 5 year old and an adult with a sound mind has these such facts placed in front of them by the site owner and the adult still dismisses the claim by reasoning, 'it still could be ok,' they could be removing the edits.

What is the thought process here? Why in the world would anyone step in that direction when there are 9483748593984 credible sources within another click of the mouse.
I can't see the rationale.

i did screw up that page though..i will watch and see if somebody fixes it.

thank you for sharing this info Cali66
like i said i enjoy encyclopedia type sites because it jsut usually seems very informational instead of opinionated.
but the fact that it can be edited by millions of viewers...changes things obviously.
