Topic: The most profound question of our time | |
---|---|
Part of what it means to be human is to be capable of reflection, upon self and upon the world. Because of our limited range of experiences and cognitive capacities, this reflection ultimately leads to vexing and important questions. How did I get here? What is the meaning of life? How can I achieve lasting happiness?
These are questions to be thoughtfully contemplated, and each of us will ultimately reach our own conclusions by our own means. I would like to suggest today that we add another question to this profound and important list. If a kick returner is standing at one goal-line and must reach the other, and a hungry bear prowls at the fifty-yard line, will the kick returner make it from one side to the other... or be mauled? I would have to say, as fast as a bear can run, at 900 pounds I would have to bet that it is terrible at corners. I am going to have to doubt that it can out wit somebody that is trained to out run.

I was watching a documentary last night where a scientist made the statement "what makes us human is our ability to feel empathy and speak"... I pondered that for a moment and then shook my head thinking "of course, scientists"
