What is the best brand of guitar to get? I wanna learn how to play but Im lost on whos guitar is better

There's no real definitive answer to this. You can ask 100 people, and you'll get 100 different responses.

It also depends on what KIND of music you want to play. Guitars are like cars. Any car can drive you from here to there, but there are sooo many different kinds of cars. Same thing with guitars. All guitars play music, but there are soooo many variations on HOW you want them to sound.

Personally, my favorite is my Fender Nashville Telecaster. I've had it now for two years, and it has rapidly become my favorite "everyday" guitar.

However, I own two Les Pauls, a few Ibanez's, and one Paul Reed Smith.

Acoustic, nothing beats my beloved Takamine acoustic-electric. Gibson acoustics are wonderful, but expensive. Same with Martin (although Martin makes a few wonderful acoustics for under 700.00.).

Remember that, too. Guitars are expensive. Start simple, learn as you go, and ask a lot of questions. Good luck! (=

If you want versatility you may want to look at the Line 6 Variax series, with the workbench software you'll have an aresonal of differant guitars and tones all in one guitar. I don't have one myself but have played a friends & it was awesome, all it needs now is midi capability for soft synths (that would kick much arse). If you want something cheaper I'd take a look at some Ibanez models, I have a $200 Ibanez Gio and it's just as good as most $500 guitars;^]

I would start out with an inexpensive one and work your way up as U learn!!!

WALMART has them for 59.00 got one for my nephew last week . Not a Reg Guitar ... this one had wires with it to plu into something or other.

As the previous poster noted, the kind of guitar you want to get will depend on what kind of music you want to play. An acoustic guitar won't be the best for you if you want to play rock/punk/metal, and a pointy guitar definitely won't work if you wanna play acoustic jazz or classical music.

If you're just starting out, I'd suggest that you get a decent-quality starter guitar... nothing too expensive. You don't want to make the "beginning musician's mistake" of buying an expensive guitar to start with, only to get bored with music and not use it or -even worse- sell it for a fraction of what you paid for it at a pawn shop, guitar store, or private party.

And keep in mind that if you decide to buy an electric guitar, that you'll also have to spring for an amplifier and cables to hook everything up with.

A number of companies make guitars for beginners, like Fender/Squier, Epiphone, Washburn, and Ibanez. These companies also make pretty good acoustic guitars as well that will fit in a student's budget. And -unlike "student" guitars of the past which often pretty much sucked, they're all made pretty well nowadays.

Try going to your local music store (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc.) and look at what you might be interested in. And be sure to ask questions, as the question you DIDN'T ask might be the one that you should have.

I agree start out on a cheap one, as you get better you can upgrade. Many local music shops have videos that can help you teach yourself, my son did that and now he plays in a band making pretty good money.

I would say go for the best Fender Stratocaster you can afford...of course then there is the subject of amplifier.

Ibanez is a good all around guitar, just a cheap one and you can hit a multitude of different tones. Of course if you ask me Ibanez is the best guitar...but they are good for a starter guitar if you want quality, if you're just looking for something to tink around with get a cheap one from Wal-Mart to see if you like playing the guitar (not everyone actually likes it after awhile).

Find a music store and take a lot of time looking at all kinds of guitars---dont be in too much of a hurry.

Find what suits you- one that has features you like, one that "fits" you well, plays to your liking and sounds good.

If you take a little bit of time, you will often find that an instrument "speaks" to you...and you will know when you are ready to spend your money.

I still say for a cheap guitar start off with Ibanez, walmart & target sold guitars usualy have incredibaly difficult neck action, anything by Rogue is junk and so are the cheaper Epiphone SG's (Epiphone Les Pauls are ok but they go out of tune easy). Squier and Ibanez are the only cheap guitars I'll trust. Also one big thing you'll want to note is pickups, single coils (like on a strat) have a real twangy sound while humbuckers have a more rich, full bodied tone (I much prefer humbuckers). Of course, I've been playing 16 years so I'm a little picky about my guitars..lol.
