I watched my grandmother die of a broken heart so I would have to say yes. She is where she had wanted to be with my grandfather who passed a way in 85 and she passed in 92. I know that they are together, as your friends are together.

These things do happen. Often it is not hearts being broken but love being unable to remain earthbound.
Sometimes the love that flourishes in the privacy of togetherness wilts and shrivels in the absence of its symbiotic other half.
Strange as it might sound, true love can also be expressed in wishing your survivor to not be left alone. You know when your time is up, but there is that crucial giving of blessing to your other half, to go on and to enjoy life.

I do not call you to my death so that you might mourn my loss, but that you might have more life, abundantly, for I love you enough to wish you an ever better life without me.
IMO

"Remove the sponge cell from the sponge, prevent it from finding its way back to its brethren, and it dies. Scrape a liver cell from the liver and in its isolation it too will shrivel and give up life. But what happens if you remove a human from his social bonds, wrenching him from the superorganism of which he or she is a part?" Howard Bloom, The Lucifer Principle.
