Apparently is a factor among the older (*cough*wiser*/cough*) crowd. So because I am only 23 I apparently know nothing of the subjects I talk about, now I'm not that intelligent by any means but I do know a great deal about today and yesterday facts and conflicts. However this age gap keeps my word from being considered because apparently "if you didn't live it, you have no say-so". Well I guess with that idealogy we all have been lied too by textbooks and history books alike.

So to get down to it, what is it that differs from me knowing what I know versus that of my age?

they spring from have no age.

age is irrelevant to a good
idea or a poor understanding.

To be honest, I base my opinion of one's intelligence by the way they speak of what they know. Just because you are younger than I does not make me smarter, Just that I have experienced more situations on which I base my knowledge.

Actually, I've learned more history off of my kids' history books and listening to them. Who are these boorish old folks who nay-say you??? laugh

That is just the natural order of things...there will be issues you will enter into that you don't have first hand experiences at...however that does not mean that those older or wiser will have the same experience you will once you've been there too.

I respect younger opinions...but have trouble when a 20 year old tries to tell me about how it is in a 9 year relationship...they can not know much about some issues...they can only project their ideals into it. And there is nothing wrong with that...but this does not put them in a position to educate those who have been in one. flowerforyou

So right! But there are issues that are not about understanding or ideas...but sometimes require knowlege of having been there too. flowerforyou

YOU have a great mind. And its not really your mental aptitude or personality that has anything to do with your age..SEE, your age is simply less than one older and so in their minds YOU have NOT LIVED long enough to have been through ALL that they have lived.
So, with SOME OLDER people THATS HOW THEY "SEE" you..

But as for me its ALL about RESPECT,,hell I will STILL be quite
and just lesten to any person older than me,,because I feel I will ALWAYS be willing to learn from their lives or experiences.. and some might be NUTS,,,but THEY WEREN'T ALL THEIR LIVES...

I respect a 15 year old if THEY act like they respect me,wink..

Some older folks just DON'T have a nack for talking w/o SEEMING LIKE GOD! And THATS just wrong....drinker

Well the question isn't based of a relationship type conversation, more of a historical perspective. I understand where your coming from, and would leave that for the experienced. I'm just saying that if what I have learned about a certain past or present subject is null and voided because I wasn't alive at the time the event occured? And with that same outlook does that mean we all in fact know absolutely nothing about the Civil War, WWI, 1776, etc. That was the basis of the question, but thank you for your input on a different subject matter.flowerforyou

however there always a great deal of difference in experience...

for example, between a first term senator and one who has
20+ years as a legislator, or for example a veteran of war
in a hot conflict and someone whose only warfare experience
is in a college classroom, for example.

One thing I do realize... that I know so much more now than I did even a few years ago. I have a better understanding of so many things. Even when I was 23, I had a very good grasp on things, I always have. The older I get, the better I get tho. No one should disregard anything you have to say soley based on your age. However, don't ever assume you can't improve yourself and your intelligence. Compare youself to how you used to be say even 5 years ago... how much have you changed? How much have you mentally grown?

I have seen you put in your two cents many times and feel you have a lot to offer the forums. That does not mean I will always agree with you. I am not one to play the age card though. Anyone at any age is entitled to their opinion. I don't like it when anyone tries to force theirs on me...no matter how old they are. I am sure you know what I mean. flowerforyou

I agree...You will get respect when you show it. Just because you disagree, lets say with the war in Iraq, thats fine and you will see the majority of people do. But when you disrespect our troops and the people that have put their butts on the line and died for this country well the older generation really takes offence to that..JMHO
