Constant rat-a-tat-tat
Against the window pane
Branches screeching and scratching
Against the glass
Grating and twisting my frayed nerves
Clenching my teeth, hands balled up into fists
Eyes narrowed into slits, nostrils flared
Constant rat-a-tat-tat
Against the window pane
Bolting up to my feet
Mouth stretched taut as I scream
EEEEEEEEEEENOUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Flying across the room
Tearing the door open
Breaking through the screen door
Running now across the grass
Running and running until my lungs threaten to burst open
Collapsing in a heap upon the ground
Gasping and heaving for air
Precious air, needed not only for the lungs
Also to clear my mind, allowing my brain to once again engage
Ridding it of stale enclosed air
Gasps turn to sobs, heaving wracking sobs
As the tears flow, hands shaking
Face buried into the dirt, becoming smeared
With dirt mixed with tears
Sobs and tears subside
To worn and weary to move
Curled up in the dirt, the moonlight shining now
And I drift of into a dreamless sleep
