Whats a dragon?

most feel its a fire breathing reptilian scaled type of creature, much as god says the "leviathan" is. but universally there are many types - see smiles post on dragons.

job states very closely as to what a dragon is thought to be. except it does not state it has wings which many other's written of do. but there were always some that did not including leviathan.

God tells Job that he created a flame-breathing beast in the book of Job (a dragon?)

hmmm interesting if dragons were written in the bible, but as you said it is a metaphor!

The one described in Job isn't a metaphor. What would it be a metaphor for? Clearly God is speaking directly to Job when he's telling Job that he (God) was responsible for creating this fire-breathing beast that supposedly Job was aware of.

It wouldn't make much sense if Job wasn't aware of this animal, because of the way that God is speaking to Job. The conversation suggests that Job should know which animal God is referring to. And it's clearly not a metaphor.

I don't see how it could be claimed to be a metaphor for something else.

In the metaphors occur in Revelations. Revelations is supposed to be a dream anyway (or a vision). The conversation between God and Job is an entirely different thing. There's reason to think that would be a metaphor. There's absolutely nothing to equate it to.

God seems to be telling Job that if he can create this fire-breathing animal that no man can tame Job should understand that God has absolute power and can do all things.

But why claim to have created a fire-breathing animal if he didn't actually create one? It seems to me that this is God claiming that this animal actually exists and that Job should know which animal he's referring to.

That's my take on it. You can read it for yourself.

God starts speaking to job in Chapter 40

In chapter 41 he talks about the Leviathan

No metaphors here. He's talking directly about an animal that he supposedly created and that Job supposedly should be familiar with.

perhaps the dragon is the minds of men when any perception of what is right or wrong is gone, as then only the true want of a man guide the heart, and this has not been the case so far, but the dragons come forth with eyes all around, seeing all past experience from all things, and this is not at first understood, and confusion and fear is amuck, but when completed, men become wise as serpents, and bruise the head of the serpent the mind, and devour it, and become as living breathing dragons, that provide much fear as even fire called down from heaven, for the purpose of love and understanding, but indeed are as harmless as doves.......

gotta love people who claim no God yet spam the Religion topics =)

yep, gotta love everybody correct?

even you - smiles

Odly and ironic enough people love to question as though they know, however still roam around lurking, spiting evil venom, yet they still post asking why? Seems to me people are not so non-religious after all?

hmm - really the original post was looking for creatures in the bible, that is why i posted what i posted, as for abra, that is his opinion - opinion = Venom??
as to being religious or non religious, some came out of relegion and some have not, those that have, seem to have a decent understanding of that religion, others may not, but it is no different than your statements of us being lurking and venmous characters that your response tends to make you look that way also, so to each his own ours with doubt, yours with spite, neither with love or understanding, and so it goes on and on and on. do you have anything to add to what's been said in a positive way perhaps? if so please do - if not then lets us die in our so called ignorant ways while you bask in your gods warmth and glory.

tribo im not talking about this posts im talking about the majority of your posts, and others to name a few, why lurk around topics you dont believe in ? In your words, why waste your time left on earth on somthing that you know is not.. To me people like that spend more time than me posting about religion seems foolish in your aspect. I just wonder why and wonder what the purpose of you and others posting in a forum that you know that YOU KNOW does not exist.

There you go that is what I was seeking! Simple English explanation of what beasts did exist in the bible! Thanks James for the post.
