I wake up this morning, looking over the drifting sand.
The sun is hot, bright I am getting one heck of a tan.
I miss you and can picture you sitting out on the porch swing.
To you pictures, your touch , your love I always cling.

It is time to go to work. Strap up my boots and go help my team.
The people here appreciate what we do or so it seems.
I have seen them laugh , smile and I have seen them cry.
For their freedom many of our closest friends have to die.

Your love is what keeps me going on.
I can picture you and I out working on the lawn.
It is a far different way of life way over here.
We are so lucky to be born an American dear

My being over here I know this can not be easy on you.
I will come home to you please believe this is true.
After all the fighting and death I hope I am still the same man.
These people do need help, someone had to make a stand.

As for being a soldier, this is far more than just a day at work.
One has to be careful. With the bullets and bombs, evil will lurk.
I will do everything I can to insure I will come home to your arms.
We meet the enemy on this day. Bullets flying it set off all the alarms.

After a long day of work they told me I get to come back to the states.
I get to see the one I love. We can take the boat and just spend the day on the lake.
You are the reason every morning I wake up with a really big smile.
Until I with the love of my life I will be counting down every mile.
