The soft candlelight in the room,
slowly steals the blackness and gloom,
The nighttime parlor of my shadowed mind.
A face appears within the flame,
delivering to me your name,
A vision of beauty and light.
Drifting away before I ever see,
Dissipating in a haze of smoke, now free.
Floating into the shadowed beyond
Taking with it my light,
leaving me blind in the dark of night.
A lone candle flame
In the wind torn night,
Helping me discern wrong from right.
You are that and more to me.
So beautiful yet hard to hold,
If you are taken I will be left cold
Without the comfort of your embrace.
I seek to encompass your essence,
The consuming flame of your presence
Within my glass body.
To protect you from harm and fear,
Let you burn and keep you near
To draw comfort from your heat.
My heart is frozen, hard as stone,
rigid and glacial, and alone
Trapped by my deafening silence.
I am not afraid to let you melt this sheath
and find the warmth hidden beneath
To see my soul as no one has before.
I watched you burn as your flame danced,
My heart melting, my soul entranced,
A bead of wax rolls like a tear.
The shadows flutter in the burnished light,
my body awakens to the splendor of the sight.
The smoke swirls, a ghost in the wind
Describing to my eyes, the beauty of you
A portrait of innocence, intentions true,
Possessing a gossamer delicacy.
Transfixing my mind and shattering my soul
I yield to what I cannot control.
Devoured by my starving eyes,
My ever watching mind warns to be aware,
The scent of wax lies heavily in the air.
Like the petals of a white rose
Glowing, the lone fragment of fire,
Reveals my deepest truest desire.
Wondering if you will burn if I get too close.
So far away, I have stayed
From the light as I have prayed.
Now I throw my caution into the wind
And feel the freedom of love's embrace
My hope restored by the glow upon your face.
