OK! I will explain. I umpire softball games and the players, oh the players!!! I make a call and one side will like it but guaranteed the other will not. It is then that they become buttheads and that is what I am speaking of.

It is then that they become buttheads and that is what I am speaking of. They all look to you for the final call. You must not waver...you are the man. end of story.

Used to all the time. Either family had me down about some things I wanted to do for a living or friends kept me side-tracked so I wouldn't. Now, I do what I feel keeps me happy as long as it doesn't effect my sons in a bad way.

I do not waiver from my call but they do not quit their adolescent behavior. I had to eject players and some still call this a GAME!! I always thought that games (other than mind!) were supposed to be fun! I also play and cannot imagine behaving in such a manner!!

Yes, most of the time, the sides do not agree. We've taught our girls (me and the other coaches) that even if they feel the call is outrageous, take it and walk to the dugout with their head held high. Good sportsmanship is more important and the ump will make calls as he sees them, not as we want them.

Talent is talent, but sportsmanship is what people really see. right, and if we see one of our teenagers (well, they are preteens) getting the attitude, they are automatically pulled and benched for at least two innings, and if the attitude still exists in the least bit, the whole game and then they run, run run at the next practice
