Topic: Coincidence? I think not | |
---|---|
A friend had just sent the story below to me this past weekend.
I called her on Monday, we had a great talk and caught up on our lives. We talked about our Mothers' and our Fathers'. My Mother has passed on, her Father has too. We talked about what a wonderful lady her Mother is, how much our Moms' are/were alike, also our Dads'. We cried, both of us missing her Dad and my Mom. We laughed recalling funny parent stories. Both of our Moms' love cardinals, ~ I'd buy two of any cardinal gifts over the years; one for my Mom and one for her's ~ she always did the same too, one for each of our Moms' ~ it was just something we did. We talked about what a nice reminder this email below was...and how thankfully, this is more or less how we are/were with our own parents'. Later in the day Monday, I called my friend's Mom and we chatted for about 20 minutes, what a cool lady, always so cheerful and positive. I am so glad I stopped what I was doing and made that call. Please read this below...please think about it. I realize that relationships with parents can be a touchy subject and that I have been blessed 10,000 fold with mine. If you have the opportunity, please think about calling your Mom or Dad, or better yet, stopping by and spending an evening with them now and then...it would make their week. "I 'woke up' about a year ago and realized, at 79, my mother wasn't going to be around forever. So now, every Monday when I get off work, I drive to her house and we spend the evening together before I drive the 40 minutes home. We have dinner together, watch TV, knit, I take out her garbage or help her find a misplaced item or whatever she needs. I listen to her tell me the same things she told me last week and the week before or 15 minutes ago, over and over. But, I realize how precious our time together is and I enjoy that she is 'chatty' so I try to never discourage her talking by letting on that she is repeating herself. I hope someone will be as patient and caring with me when I'm her age." --MsJava My friend called me this morning before I left for work ~ very unusual. I was walking out the door, standing on the deck and answered my phone. Her Mother passed on early this morning, peacefully in her sleep. I felt as if someone had punched me in the gut and sat down hard on the step as we talked. Through my tears I looked out into the woods ~ three beautiful red cardinals came playfully flying through the yard, dashing here and there, before landing on my fence, where they sat for quite awhile. Coincidence? I think not. |

That's beautiful, Lookin. I"m glad you shared that, even though it must have taken a great deal of emotion to do so. Not a believer in coincidence, either! |

Hugs to you my giggly friend. The day of my Mother's funeral, middle of a cold blustery January day, a cardinal came flying by at the cemetary and landed in a tree nearby... Thanks Mom, we all needed that |

Yep, I just got back from helping make arrangements and of course stopping to see my Daddy
You can brighten anyone's day, an elderly neighbor, someone living alone, anyone, just by stopping by and chatting, or even a quick phone call to someone who has no family near, it only takes a few minutes of your day and it's good for both of you |
