Looking out into my yard, it looks like the stars have fallen to earth. There are thousands and thousands of twinkling fireflies out here tonight. What an incredible sight!

Isn't it an amazing sight??
I love lightning bugs (or fireflies if you are west of the Miss.!)

We used to catch them in the ole glass mayo jar with holes poked in the lid and then take them to our bedroom and let them loose to flicker around all night. Our parents were sooo cool flowerforyou

I miss fireflies. 30 yrs. ago when I first moved out west was the first time I ever realized fireflies we not everywhere. It was also the first time my ex saw and caught them in my parent's back yard in Ohio. He said he didn't know they were real live bugs...thought they were only in fairytales.

We tried bringing some to Washington state...but they died along the way. ohwell

I wish that I had a decent camera. I would love to take a time lapsed photograph of them. I live on two acres on a river here. That likely explains why there are so many. I have a huge open grassy area with woods on either side going down to the river. Looking at that open area (about 200 yards long and 50 yards wide), there is a firefly flashing about every foot apart from one another. It's like my whole yard is sparkling!

There's a special area here in the Smokey Mountains where the lightning bugs flash synchronized. Nobody knows why, they just do!glasses
