There were plenty of powerful cars in the 50s, that's when muscle cars actually started, NOT the 60s. Muscle cars were relatively small cars with engines in them usually used in larger models. Case in point, the Oldsmobile Super 88, had a large bore engine with large intake ports and a four barrel carb used in the Olds 98 while the basic 88 had a similar sized engine, but with a smaller intake and smaller carb. The 57 Olds with the J2 Package could do 0-60 in about six seconds. However.... like all later muscle cars, the J2 Olds used ALOT of gas seeing as it had tripower. Packard also had positrack in the rear of their sedans LONG before GM. They were referred to as Twin Traction, Studebaker had it as well. If you got a Packard Model 400 from 1956 with a 374, pushbutton auto and Twin Traction, you basically had a goldmine.

With the current gas prices, I prefer my Mongoose and it's a 10-speed!:thumbsup:

laugh 2001 chevy short bed , with a 5.3 and she's slammed and chipped , and i still get 22mpg ! drinker smokin drinker

<-----here's my 1977 chevy prostreet and she get's 12mpg ! laugh but she has 668 pony's under her hood !
