I would give them what I could and if they didn't accept that I would buy their things and keep them until they got on their feet again and then just give it back to them....I wouldn't give it back them until they got on their feet because they might sell to someone else that wouldn't give it back....

Plus you never know when you're going to be the one on hardtimes.....and might have to ask them for help....

That is one of the problems in this day and age no one wants to help out each other in hard times...

I just give them money. It has came back on me when I needed it.

Here's a true story.

First time gambling after I got my new job. My tax return? $75 and that was all I had until my first check. My friend Chris decided to take me and his girlfriend to the Indian Casinos near here since I wasn't 21 yet. We all go. I ended up winning $2700.00 that night and out of jealousy he blew his whole paycheck trying to compete with me. It literally made me sick as I had to watch, no amount of talking to him would bring him to his senses.

I felt bad for him (even though he was making $40k a year and living at home with his parents rent free), so I gave him $250. He didn't have any bills due, so there was $100 to play with, $150 until his next check, then I gave his girlfriend $100, because I know he would have given her that if he could, and I paid for the food and filled up his gas tank.

Then I used the rest as a down payment for my first car.

He never forgot that and no matter how many times he wanted to go out and I was down and out. He always covered me and vice versa. But I think he ended up covering me waaaaaaaaay more.

It all comes back to you, but just do it out of your own heart, for your friend. A true friend is hard to find these days and I like to have friends.

My best friend, her husband left her with 2 kids for another woman not so long ago. So she called me at the end of last month crying and upset that she was not going to have enough money to pay for rent and daycare this month. Her lease was MTM, so I told her to move in one of my units-same town she was in- and I paid the deposit for her, and all she had to pay was the prorated rent this month, and I put her lights in my name for her so she wont have to pay a deposit... Sometimes people need help, I know I have before and if not for my guardian angel I dont know where I would be to this day! If able to help, you should.

I would buy their things cause even if you give them cash they still might sell their stuff & then will never get it back....
and also it doesn't feel like a handout to them....they know someday they might get their stuff back....
