I get the gist of the question, as in, have you ever spent a lot of cash on something for someone only to them see it as no big thing.

If I have that right, my answer is yes! Every woman (3 of them) I have bought expensive jewelry for, be it diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, whatever, each woman reacted with a response like "Oh, that's nice." The reaction would have been the same had I given them a hairdryer!

All of those commercials where you see women ecstatic over receiving precious gems? That's not my experience at all!

Maybe jewellery wasn't their 'thing' *incomprehensible to me, but guess it could happen* ... or did they feel the gift came with strings attached? (not insinuating, I swear - just playing devil's advocate) ... sometimes it's the little, unexpected, nominal gestures that speak louder than the grand ones (but precious gems are something to celebrate too love)

No strings at all were attached. I just bought them jewelry because I wanted to give them something special and to show them that the gift was really symbolic of how I regarded them, like rare, precious jewels. I have no clue as to why they behaved like it was an everyday thing. Oh well!
