Overdose Kills Medic in Iraq War Photo
Posted: 2008-07-07 15:47:40 Filed Under: Iraq News, Nation News Five years after this photo of a U.S. soldier helping a young Iraqi boy to safety ran in newspapers across America, the man in the photo is dead. Former Army Spc. Joseph Dwyer died late last month of a drug overdose, authorities said. Dwyer's friends say he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. "He was certainly a hero. ... He did have some difficulty dealing with it," Jean Offutt, a Fort Bliss spokesperson said. http://news.aol.com/story/_a/overdose-kills-medic-in-iraq-war-photo/20080707104609990001?icid=200100397x1205330342x1200239046 It is sad, the loss of these young men and women. War is something that cannot be erased from their minds. They have difficulty returning to a normal life. What makes it even sadder is the fact that IT DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN!! We have no business in Iraq, they did not strike us on 9/11. |

A VERY sad statistic is that an estimated 40% of vets that seen combat since 9/11 will suffer from PTSD, or other mental anguish. I know of just one man from my unit from desert storm that has it. Might be others though, I haven't kept up with them.
![]() Come on, Bush.. 3 or 4 rotations in a combat zone? You flew a plane in the Guard, ya pinhead. Do you really think that a human can take that much without cracking to a certain extent? |
