What do you all think of ebay? I've been using it latley so far so good.

great been buyin and selling for 6 yrs

I've only bought 4 things so far I like it. I'm still learning about it.

ebay has been very good to me, but a couple of things to know, and these
were years ago, so they may have changed some things.

1. use a credit card on high dollar items (over 2,000) so if you have a
problem you can put a stop payment on it or fraud charge to dispute it.

2. paypal only covers 1,000 and only 2 times a year.

3. ebay has insurance up to 2,000, im not sure how it works.


a couple of examples.

I bought an item for over 800 and the guy didnt deliver them. Pay pal
took care of it, but it took a couple of months, but they only do this 2
times a year.


My friend bought a car for over 2,000, it was a scam and he never got
his money back. He used paypal.

So if on items under 500 bucks go for it, if unsure use a cc so you can
dispute them.

also ALWAYS LOOK AT THE SELLARS HISTORY.

I've never had a problem with them. I have a friend who owns a
collectibles store and he uses eBay all the time, and he's never had a
problem. I do know one person who purchased an old comic book on eBay
for about $800, and the seller sent him an empty box in the mail. The
issue has since been resolved (it required the threat of mail fraud
charges), and the seller lost his account.

I bought alot of items via eBay. Found items that just cant be found
anywhere else - and easy to find at that! I've had a few sour deals.
Maybe 4 out of the 200+ auctions I've won.

The last one was especially nasty. Bought a new dig-camera, price was
good. But, when the auction was done, the seller said that I had to use
his *special* checkout process - which was stated in elusive terms in
the auction. Anyway, the "special" process required calling into their
"service center" - in the end it was a REALLY HIGH pressure sales pitch
to buy "batteries, insurance, memory-cards" etc. Way more "high
pressure" than the usual.

I refused to buy the camera, and it dragged on for 2 weeks. In the end
they dropped it, realizing they simply weren't going to get the money.
Later, I discovered that they were an infamous local Camera shop that
changes its name every few months and does this as "standard operating
procedure"

since you've all seem to have knowledge dealing with ebay I have a
question. I tried to sell some craft work I did. It's actually
Japanese punch art, not commen here. A friend posted for me and used
crafts, handmade catagory, didn't hardly get a look. Where should I
post it, in art? Anyone, have a suggestion.

also never ever buy things from china or at least check it out.

what happens is that you can by a handmade box, like i did and won it at
around 15 bucks, it was beutiful and worth at least 20 but the shipping
charges was 150 bucks. and yes I didnt read the fine print.

this type of thing happened to me twice and I refused to pay.

If you refuse to pay to many times they kick you off the site.

so just watch what you bid on if it is out of the america.

I've bought off of ebay for about 3 years never had a problem.

Ebay is a good thing if you just use common sense and learn to watch for
the signs of scammers. For instance, if you see a nice camcorder or
something that seems too good to be true, look at the category it's
listed in...it will be listed somewhere toward the top of the page. A
scam will usually be listed in a bogus category. For instance, I've
seen nice cameras listed very cheap but would be listed under figurines,
dolls, etc. and are usually listed as a short duration auction of 1-3
days.
