I am getting alot of people contacting me on my messenger that I don't even know. They say they got my mes address from Mingle2. Most of these people have been scam people, trying to scam. The others have been trying to start cyber sex which I'm not here for that! I'd like to meet someone 1st before the sex gets brought up.
Anyone else having these problems too? |

It's important to realize that if one does give out his/her email or IM (to another user on any site, really), it's possible that it will get into the wrong hands and will be shared among scammer circles. The general rule of thumb, of course, is not to give others your personal information or money. Armed with that, we can keep an eye out for scammers. |

It's not problem for me not to give out money, because I don't have any! I hate the idea that people try to prey on other people. So, if we come across a scammer, should we just block them or can we report them? I've been on the JSH site for a while and hadn't had a problem, but since it changed to mingle2, I've had a couple of contacts. And, they are getting better, proper American English and all! Second question, what problems can you encounter if you give out your Yahoo (or any other email) address? Thanks, Charles! |

noblenan and everybody else, please do report potential scammers. We will then look at the account's activity to see if it is indeed a scam. It's better to be safe!
As for what can happen when you give out your email address, the most common thing that will result will be spam (which the spam-catching aspect of your email will probably take care of) and perhaps IMs from people who figured out your IM handle from your email address. As long as you do not fall for any phishing schemes, though, it won't turn into more than a nuisance. In short, do not give out any sensitive information to a party unless you are sure that the party is legitimate. As for users who contact you and then deactivate, that is a good sign that the person was a scammer. Either he/she deactivates after sending out a number of messages, or we discover them and ban them. |

I never had problems on the "Just say hi!" site, but there has been more on mingle2. That was a good thing about JSH compared to other sites I've used. I'd like to keep it that way! Thanks, again! We'd like to keep the site relatively scammer-free, too. We will certainly do all that we can toward to achieve this goal.
