You never get over it. It is always a reminder of what not to do or to do different. Especially if you had children with that person. You can how ever get past it and move on with your life.

A few months. I'm sure finding someone else shaved off a few years from that recovery period, and you better believe I'm eternally grateful to her for that

There was nothing to get over, we remained friends and just went separate ways is all. It did take a month or so to get used to living alone though.
