This is the untold story of Uncle Wiggly Wings The US Air force pilot Hal Halvorsen.

Today marks the 60th Anniversary of the year long Airlift of supplies to the defeated Germans in the City of Berlin which was cut off by the Soviet Union in order to occupy the whole of Berlin
The back ground of this so moving story is that British and U.S. aircraft flew in food, diesel and coal to residents.
Despite threats of court marshals (Which carried death penalty with the crime of treason) Hal made little parachouts and dropped candy to the kids who NEVER had seen or tasted a bar of candy in their whole lives. In order for the kids to know he was making a drop he would move the rudders of the wings of his airplane so the kids would know he is up there.
First day 10 kids next day 100kids and by the end of the week thousand kids congragated to get candy drops from Uncle Wiggly Wings.
The word got out to the papers and he was callied to be court marshaled. USA public opinion moved as such that companies including Hersheys started donating candy for the drop and it made sense to the politicians to squeeze Soviet out of their ambitions.

There are tales of seventy year old Germans still clinging to the little parachutes dropped by Uncle Wiggly Wings and talk about those times with tears in their eyes. I can tell I have had a job today typing this piece as I did not find the written story anywhere to copy and paste.
