Wrong: DANA WHITE.

This guy is truly an egotistical control freak and anybody who says otherwise... I'd like to know your reasoning. Honestly, when you think of the NFL/NBA/NHL, your first thought may be a team or a certain player that is basically the face of a league. Tom Brady, LeBron James, Sydney Crosby, etc. But for the UFC, it's Dana White. MMA is and should be about the Fighters. But Dana White would prefer you think of him first, then the fighters. What President/Commisioner of a league that you know of curses and swears during press conferences? You wouldn't dare see NFL Commisioner Roger Godell talking about a certain player saying he is a "piece of sh*#" because he signed with another league/promotion. Honestly, Dana White is whats holding the UFC back from being bigger than what it could be. Big name sponsors, advertisers and networks are not going to want to do anything with the UFC while he's swearing up and down like a sailor. However...

Right: Dana White

As much as I'd like to bury him in this post, he has done a hell of a lot for MMA, at least in the States. He and the Fertitta Bros took what was essentially a NHB(No-Holds-Barred) fight promotion in 2001 and legitimized it to where State Athletic Commissions now recognize MMA as a true sport and have turned fighters into house-hold names. Hell, even ESPN broadcasts official fight weigh-ins the day before a UFC ppv whereas a couple years ago, ESPN wouldn't dare mention the term "MMA."

I'd write more, but lets get you fools talkin' now.

Thoughts?

Dana White, where to begain. i feel hes one of those nessisary evils, he has built up the sport and has always found ways to reach the public but at the same time he is trying to run it like a monopoly. No other MMA org will do good without his say so, Thw WEC only runs because its a feeder for the UFC, Elite XC runs because its on showtime and has a couple decent fighters, but i still see them going out soon to. The only org that will servive in my opinion is affliction, thers bad blood between couture and dana. If couture runs it fighters know if they come there they will be done right and this scars Dana White, hints the Free spike on the affliction payper view. Hes going to have to realize that there is going to be 2 orgs and thers nothing that he can do about it now that trump signed on to the deal.

I think EliteXC is going to stick around for awhile. With the success of their Network show(albeit that it was lame) and to have Showtime & CBS having the deep pockets, they could be a likely Number 2 to the UFC, if not already. Plus, they're willing to Co-Promote with other promotions whereas the UFC refuses to have anyone associated with them.

I don't know what to think of Affliction... as of yet. Sure, they got Donald Trump as an equity partner, of sorts, but that's not going to guarantee they'll be a major player in MMA. For all we know, the July 19th ppv is going to be really good or is going to really suck.

I'm just stoaked to see Fedor and Arlovski on the same card.happy

Hey everyone:

Dana White: Well first, and this should be fairly self-evident, I don't think I can really comment too harshly on all things Dana in that I don't know the guy and have never met him. I will concede however that he does, at times, come across as a rather arrogant individual, the best example (in my opinion) being TUF's opening credits where he is credited as one of the stars of the show. I don't know, something about that seems self-important and though he is in every episode, so are a host of referees and yet I don't see them being given opening credit kudos.

That all stated, I imagine that in order to run the UFC you would have to be a bit cocky. You are dealing with some really good guys but also a handful of very arrogant guys who think that the entire sport of MMA was created to cater to their every waking wish. I imagine that to deal with personalities like Shamrock, Sylvia, Ortiz, and a host of others, that you probably have to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder.

I could be wrong about that but it seems to me that it would probably help--at least to some extent.

I do think that Dana has a love of MMA and I think that he very much wants the UFC to continue to be a great organization. I think in order for that to happen however, he is going to have to start paying some of the guys who work for him a bit more money. That is a different discussion thread but it is linked to the overall question.

Bottom line--I think that Dana has done good things for the UFC but I also think that he will have to keep doing good things in order to make it the elite org. out there. If he starts believing his own BS press and begins to think that other organizations are simply bad knock-offs, the sport may hit him a lot harder than a well thrown punch. That, as it turns out, is also good for ego deflation.

UFC is alright. It certainly is taking away viewers from Boxing (which I prefer over UFC, because it isn't about knockouts, but just good fights in an traditional manner). UFC still has kinks as far as a professional sport that they are sortin' out. The only problem I have is that it is called mixed martial arts, but I only see one martial art that is legally successful within the ring/octagon. I see guys claiming they know martial arts such as Wing Tsun, yet they appear to not have any knowledge of what this martial art entails. Some of the guys are overweight and (maybe I am just going into cage fighting and not properly UFC) just think they can get in the ring and be a respected fighter.

However on the flip side! Those who are professionals in this sport are very well conditioned, as I know it is probably the most demanding sport of your mental and physical health, second to soccer. It is a very tough sport and most hardcore than anything I have ever seen. It just isn't for me though.

The wrestling is semi-homosexual (which there is nothing wrong with it) but it just isn't for my eyes. I'll just stick to my boxing and kick boxing.
