they said if they find a stray animal and the owner doesnt come forward within a week to claim there animal, they put it to sleep.

i was horrified by this

Donations only account for the "putting the animal to sleep" as I believe. If you want to make change speak about this with your representative.

Here in the Colonies, there are a number of "No Kill" animal shelters. They take care of an animal until the animal finds a home. Most Govt. run facilities do euthanise animals after a set period of time.

in general, the animal shelters are overdominated by the animals, there are no place to put them, which is why i'm guessing they now nueter and microchip all pets that you buy from them~ my dog came from the SPCA and i love him to death. However, what do you expect them to do with these animals??? they get more in then they can get people to adopt the spca does lots of commercial, advertising, they give animals at a low cost... I don't agree with it either i'm just saying i can understand why they have to do it. I feel like my dog is my family and I would hate to think of this happening to him, but he is microchipped!

well when i started donating to the rspca, he told me all the ways my donations would help, and NOT once, did he say they put healthy animals down. The fact is, if my donations are going towards putting healthy animals down, then i will no longer donate to them. plus the man who got me to give donations LIED. grumble

Realities of life are seldom pretty.
To many people allow pets to run wild; breed, when puppies are not wanted; when pets can no longer be kept, they go for a drive & dump them, or move & ,leave them.

Some people seem to be more ANIMAL, than the animals, to me.

Very SAD.

the rspca told me they never put a healthy animal down, what a load of bollcoks that was, just so they could get donations off me. And as another poster said, my donations are going towards putting healthy animals down. im going to stop the donations, and give cancer research donations instead. grumble grumble

Here in my part of the world if the dog control officer captures a stray the municipal dog control laws state if the dog has a license then the dog is held for 72 hrs and if not claimed by the owner the dog is put down. If the dog is unlicensed then the time period is 24 hour then it is put down. The municipal dog control law specifies the method used is death by shooting with a 12 gage shotgun.
